As a producer of industrial batteries under Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 we ABB Emergi-lite produce Ni-Cad- used in our LED Luminaires, and VRLA – Valve regulated Lead Acid – used in Central BATTERY SYSTEM batteries. We obliged to take back free of charge, waste industrial batteries supplied to an end user treatment and recycling. We are required to do this in any calendar year we place new industrial batteries on the market. The company meets the producer responsibility via membership of the Lumicon Producer Compliance Scheme (registration no. WEEE/DH0073UQ). Under this scheme, de -polluted luminaires (ie those with the lamps, batteries and liquid filled capacitors removed), which are being replaced by our fittings, will be recycled in an environmentally sound manner.
Producers are required to finance the environmentally sound disposal of non-household luminaires and the gas discharge lamps within them. Therefore there will be a recycling charge, which may vary from time to time
