Large cold annealing and pickling line in Taiyuan

High availability and functionality with optimized RollxA solution

Taiyuan Iron& Steel (Group) Co Ltd (TISCO)

Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co Ltd (TISCO) was established in 1934. TISCO is an extra-large iron and steel complex, the largest stainless steel enterprise with 10 million tons of steel being produced per year (4 million tons of which is stainless steel).

Challenges

  • Need for advanced and custom-tailored control concept for wide production range and thickness range
  • Precise single-drive and process-area control required for stainless annealing furnace
  • Technological solution to control the plant with better productivity and less MTTR (mean time to repair)

Our solution

It consists of key process areas as pay-off reel, de-greasing, annealing furnace, pickling, inline skin pass mill, tension leveler, loops and tension reel.

Based on proven Roll@xA solution, new simulation and development has been carried out to meet the complicated control requirement. With the smart double motor solution, the accurate tension / speed control can be achieved for the whole production range. All the performance values are met and most of them are better than the contractual ones. ABB was rewarded several lines in TISCO group after this project.
