As a Business Controller, Noora acts as a financial sparring partner for ABB Marine & Ports Service's management, sales and project management.
“The best thing about this job is that it's not purely financial, but you need to understand the business to support these teams in the best possible way,” says Noora, a University of Vaasa graduate.
“I'm also constantly learning new things from the top experts around me. Additionally, working for a technology company that is building a sustainable future through its solutions also provides me with a deeper meaning to my work.”
Promoting sustainable shipping
Noora works in ABB's Marine & Ports division, which develops electrification and automation solutions for the marine industry. Among such solutions is the Azipod® electronic propulsion system, which was developed in Finland and contributes to the fuel economy, energy efficiency and drivability of cruise ships, icebreakers, ro-ro ships and tankers. Marine & Ports sites cover Turku, Hamina and Vuosaari in Helsinki, but the business is global. The Service business is responsible for servicing, maintaining, expanding and projecting solutions on vessels around the world.
“As a Business Controller, I get to see this interesting business from many angles. The scope of my role is broad, but the main responsibilities include budgeting and forecasting processes, management reporting and analysis, as well as project reviews,” says Noora.
Noora has a team and her role also includes a seat on the management team of the local Service business. “I appreciate the fact that Marine's Vuosaari office has a direct connection to the business, also through production, and we have a good team. My job is very much a team effort, so good colleagues play a major role in moving things forward, and they energize me a lot, too.”
“ABB has been an excellent employer for me and it has been great to see my own development. You can find a lot of capacity in yourself if you are brave enough to take on new challenges,” says Noora.
“As today is International Women's Day, I want to encourage all women to join the technology sector!"
