Energia Europa’s innovative E-Power solution is optimizing power quality and energy consumption for industrial, commercial, and residential sites. Smart Power technology from ABB ensures the high performance of their system
To make the most of green energy, a site’s power distribution system must operate at peak efficiency – and fix the power quality issues that come with renewable sources. Energia Europa of Zanè, Northern Italy is a leading innovator in this field – with ABB supplying essential technologies for its E-Power system.
Energia Europa produces devices that make industrial, commercial and residential sites more energy efficient. The company has also established a European Center of Excellence for Power Quality Research at the University of Florence. Its main solution is its patented E-Power system.
E-Power introduces a series of electromagnetic vectors in phase opposition into the energy flow to optimize inductance and maximize the system’s power absorption. Unlike active filters with resistors and switching devices, power losses are effectively nil.
“Using a passive inductive filter with hybrid-type characteristics improves power quality, E-Power ensures that the energy system only consumes what is essential and necessary,” says Gabriele Paltrinieri, Chief Marketing Officer, Energia Europa. “The result: increased energy efficiency and energy savings for the site.”
Energia Europa estimates the cost savings to range from 3 percent to 6 percent, depending on the type of electricity mains.
To date, E-Power systems have been installed at more than 900 sites across Europe in every market sector. Energia Europa’s engineers chose ABB technologies after careful consideration. E-Power requires stringent laboratory testing and high-quality components to ensure the safety and energy-saving performance that Energia Europa certifies to customers.
Giorgio Bettale Chief Technical Officer, Energia Europa, says: "ABB provides us with assured product reliability, on-time delivery and valuable technical support. The E-Power system uses ABB’s Tmax XT and Emax 2 motorized switch disconnectors for the filter on/off switching and Tmax XT and Emax 2 circuit breakers on the input lines. We also offer E-Power with ABB’s Ekip UP device, allowing the equipment to connect to the cloud-based ABB Ability™ Energy Manager platform.”
ABB also provides compliance testing for EN 61439-1 and 2 for all E-Power systems at its laboratories.
“Energy savings and efficiency are major challenges,” says ABB sales engineer Roberto Antico. “The collaboration between ABB and Energia Europa is an example of how, together, we can offer high-performance and safe solutions that enable companies to reduce their consumption.”
