ABB releases innovative technologies and latest digital offerings in Xiamen

At the ABB Customer World 2018 held today in Xiamen, ABB launched 68 new offerings and introduced 20 ABB Ability™ digital products and solutions to support Chinese customers in accelerating their digital transformation. It is ABB's largest demonstration in a year, focusing on its latest technological achievements and important breakthroughs.

Under the theme of “Let’s write the digital future. Together”, ABB displayed its comprehensive portfolio of smart products, technologies and solutions in utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure at the exhibition which covers over 6,800 square meters. The virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies are adopted for many demos, to help visitors get a more vivid experience of ABB’s latest technologies.

Digital technologies help build smart grids of the future

The increasingly complex power grids pose higher requirements for digitalization and automation. The ABB Ability™-based digital technologies and solutions combine advanced power products with digital sensors, cloud computing and software to enable integration of operation technologies and IT, allowing power grids to get more intelligent, flexible, reliable and efficient.

M+ microgrid solution: The AI-based multi-agent technology is introduced to micro-grid control for the first time, enabling seamless on- and off-grid switching in China. It reasonably integrates renewable energy generation, conventional power generation, energy storage and loads to create safe, stable and reliable energy supply network. Currently, the solution has been successfully deployed in more than 40 projects across the world.

ABB Ability ™ digital power transformer: This is the world’s first power transformer that integrates digital solutions, signifying new changes in the transformer sector. In the future, all ABB power transformers will integrate digital features to enable remote monitoring and real-time analysis of key parameters, further improving grid stability and asset utilization. Its modular design and scalable performance enable customers to gain full control over its digital applications, available for further upgrading in the future.

ABB Ability ™ Inspection for transformers – Txplore: It is a wireless robot service solution that can enter liquid-immersed transformers for fast, safe and low-cost inspection. The innovative solution, which is the first of its kind worldwide, improves safety, reduces manpower risk and shortens the inspection time calculation from on a daily basis to on an hourly, thus reducing downtime and lowering inspection costs by approximately 50%.

ABB AbilityTM virtual power plant platform – PowerFit: It connects various types of generating units, energy storage facilities and load assets to enable precise control of balance between power demands and outputs, meeting external power demands while lowering power generation, heating and cooling costs. This platform can help power users in various fields predict renewable energy output and demand, thus maximizing revenue from electricity sales and purchase.

Next-generation circuit breaker and switch products: ABB introduced next generation circuit breaker and switch products, including TmaxXT moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB), TruONE™ Advanced & Pro Control, and Ekip Up digital unit. Built upon the ABB Ability™ Electrical Distribution Control System, ABB provides a more comprehensive intelligent power distribution product portfolio, and applies digital innovations to equipment management in companies, helping users enable real-time control of power distribution system in the easiest way.

Smart manufacturing stimulates a new round of industrial upgrade

ABB Ability™ Machsense-R Condition Monitoring for HV motors integrates ABB’s advanced algorithms for motor vibration analysis, and makes comprehensive analysis of multi-channel vibration signals, thus ensuring efficient operation of drive systems and equipment.

The world’s first commercial modular process automation solution: This is ABB’s first solution based on module automation concept. It increases or decreases production demands via module building, providing high flexibility for users. It is an ideal choice for pharmaceutical factories, biotech manufacturers, fine chemical plants and the food & beverage sector.

ABB Ability ™ Digital powertrain: This solution integrates equipment, software and services, and relies on one-stop integrated portal to allow visibility of parameters of several drives on one platform. As a result, the operation efficiency, predictability and safety of equipment can be significantly improved, and the unplanned downtime reduced by 70%. Green Energy, E-mobility--New solution for Solar & EV charging: ABB Blink 7kW AC charging pile that features flexible networking, Bluetooth connection, voice prompt and LED indicator, and double-front-cover design is suitable for various parked vehicle charging applications, including residential communities and parking lots. Terra 184Z is a stand-alone 180kW DC charging station armed with a fully-fledged safety system and highly intelligent IoT feature. Over 90% failures can be diagnosed remotely, and over 60% site service needs reduced. Moreover, its upgradable modular design makes it suitable for such charging applications as roadside, expressway, service station, and business space.
