- New Alamein City in northwest Egypt comprises the presidential palace, commercial centers, residential towers and luxurious resorts, and hosts about 3 million residents
- ABB will supply variable speed drives for HVACR systems to maximize comfort, air quality and safety of the buildings' residents
- The drives solution is expected to save 25-30% on annual energy costs
ABB, working together with the system integrator Quasi systems, is supplying over 470 units of ACH580 drives for major buildings in the New Alamein City development, including the presidential palace, Al Alamein University, New Alamein City towers and a luxury hotel
Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, New Alamein City is a new fourth-generation coastal city in Northwest Egypt that is projected to provide housing for around 3 million residents. The development offers an alternative to crowded living in the capital of Cairo, and a key aim is to reduce that residential burden. This new coastal city will include a range of high quality international trade centers, residential towers and luxurious resorts, along with the existing historical sites.
The ACH580 is a variable frequency drive designed specifically for the needs of HVAC applications. It features HVAC functions that can monitor and manage energy usage, and also support easy integration into building management systems (BMS) control and fire safety systems. Adding variable speed drives ensures the building ventilation requirements match the needs of the occupants and the external environment at all times, making sure only the right amount of energy is used to maintain the correct comfort levels. For these reasons, the ACH580 is ideal for managing air conditioning at New Alamein City to help maximize comfort, air quality, safety, and most importantly, energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the building operations.
In addition, some of the installed drives are ultra-low harmonic, meaning they don’t pollute the power network and thus ensure its stability. Ultra low harmonics also ensures the electrical system itself does not waste energy, futher contributing to the energy saving potential and sustainability of the new city’s infrastructure.
With the ACH580 solution, it is expected that the building owner will be able to save 25-30% on energy use and costs annually.
“Since ABB is a pioneering manufacturer of a wide range of low harmonic drives, starting from 4 kW, this greatly helps us in delivering this best-in-class technical solution to get the best results,” explains Mohamed Salah, Managing Director of Quasi Systems Energy and Control Solutions.
“The advantages of excellent after-sales support, proximity of regional service workshops and a highly qualified service team made ABB equipment the preferred solution. Together we deliver both high-quality project execution and superior service to our customers, giving the positive end results of reliable cooling of the buildings and significant amounts of energy being saved,” Salah adds.
