ABB power protection helps viscose fiber producer improve power reliability

  • Lenzing SPV's facility in Indonesia provides staple fibers for advanced textiles
  • Solution for mains power supply issues and power losses prevents costly restarts
  • ABB’s PowerLine DPA UPS guarantees continuous power availability to customer’s operation-critical infrastructure

Reliable power supplies are essential. Preventing power cuts ensures production lines can operate at peak productivity without complex and costly restarts: safety levels are maintained; resources conserved; product quality and process equipment protected; and valuable production time maximized.

Lenzing is a leading global manufacturer of viscose staple fibers and sodium sulfate, essential ingredients in fashion, home textiles, sports and outdoor wear, protection wear, cosmetic and hygiene products, and high-tech applications. The PT South Pacific Viscose Lenzing (SPV) facility in Purwakata, West Java, works hand in hand with Indonesia’s textile producers. Over 40 years in business, SPV's high-quality viscose fibers have contributed to Indonesia’s position as a leading global source of premium textiles.

SPV Corporate Affairs Manager Sigit Indrayana said: “Each fiber we produce is made of cellulose, a natural component of our renewable source material wood. Improving power reliability is an important way to preserve this resource, improving productivity, reducing waste and making growth more efficient and sustainable.”

For instantaneous protection of production processes, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) was the logical solution. “Reliable, continuous power is essential for critical operations and can be key to capitalizing on growth opportunities,” said Rajeni Ray, Power Protection Sales Manager, ABB Electrification Indonesia. “A robust, high-performance UPS helps ensure facilities have the 24/7 power supply they need. ABB’s PowerLine DPA UPS is performing well and ensuring SPV’s production can run continuously without the worry any power losses.”

ABB Indonesia has worked with local partner PT Kalinda Abadi Sukses to install UPS solutions based on the PowerLine DPA 20–80 kVA system at four different SPV locations. The ABB PowerLine DPA UPS guarantees continuous power availability to SPV’s operation-critical infrastructure.

PowerLine DPA is an online double conversion UPS and makes the advantages of ABB’s unique modular UPS architecture available for locations where unreliable power supplies can be rough on electronic equipment and process controls. PowerLine DPA is based on ABB’s Decentralized Parallel Architecture (DPA) that ensures the very best UPS design in terms of availability, flexibility, cost, and ease of use. The PowerLine DPA is designed to have a design life of 15 years.
