- This ABB in Italy initiative is part of the "Count on the Future!" program promoted by Junior Achievement Italy.
- Leveraging an interactive and engaging format, the workshop highlights on current environmental issues, behaviors to counteract them, and technologies and related professions that can create change in an engaging and interactive format for elementary school children.
As part of the Bergamo Brescia 2023 - Italian Capital of Culture initiative, ABB launched an educational workshop called "Digital & Green – The frontiers of future professions,” aimed at children in primary or elementary school, as a part of the "Count on the Future!" program created by Junior Achievement (JA) Italy.
The choice of Bergamo to present the activity is particularly significant for ABB, both in relation to the company's historical presence in the territory and its roots in the local community, and by virtue of the numerous sustainable development initiatives and awareness of environmental issues carried out by the city administration.
The workshop is also the third event in the "Future of" series for the project “Le fabbriche pensanti – Storie di Compasso d’oro da Bergamo a Brescia,” of which ABB is Top Partner.
“Digital &Green” generates an awareness of environmental issues and their repercussions, and highlights professionals in technological backgrounds who have an active role in creating sustainable development for the environment, communities and the economy.
“It is with great pride that we present today, together with Junior Achievement Italy, this workshop that we have the ambition to bring to 10,000 students throughout Italy by 2025,” commented Eliana Baruffi, Communications Manager of ABB Italy. “The goal is to share inspirations for future professions and their training paths, as well as educate students about STEM subjects and the outlets they offer in support of sustainability. We are proud to start this program in Bergamo, where ABB has a historic presence, where we also celebrated the Bergamo Brescia 2023 Italian Capital of Culture.”
“Sustainability is one of the most important challenges we are now facing to preserve our planet's resources and ensure that present and future generations can enjoy them. The collaboration with ABB, a leading partner on this issue, enriches our free educational proposal aimed at lower secondary schools throughout Italy, testifying how sustainability, digital and orientation are increasingly connected and fundamental topics to train citizens and professionals of tomorrow,” said Miriam Cresta, CEO, JA Italy.
The Digital & Green workshop engages and encourages active participation and allows a young audience to become aware of major issues such as climate change and the quality of life, and how we can make changes through sustainability focused professions.
The workshop highlights lesser-known professions who have an active role in making sustainable development possible – such as sustainability specialists, energy engineers, sustainable urban mobility planners and researchers – and shows how each contributes to solving these issues and enabling energy transition.
ABB also brings the testimonies of its “dream coaches” – professionals who have become ambassadors of sustainability, electrification, and energy efficiency. They are essential to the transformation of the energy sector and inspire young students to adopt more sustainable and advanced solutions. The dream coaches also provide concreate examples of how ABB is helping to improve quality of life.
