- Site’s team, in Xinhui, China, empowered to accelerate decarbonization and energy transition
- ABB AbilityTM Energy Manager enables 16.5% energy efficiency improvement
- Driving Scope 1 & 2 CO2e emissions towards net zero
Team at ABB's Xinhui production facility has implemented 100% renewable energy sourcing and delivered energy efficiency improvements of 16.5 percent vs. a 2019 baseline as part of ABB’s Mission to Zero™. The program has delivered a 4,300t reduction in Scope 1 & 2 CO2e emissions since 2019.
ABB Xinhui in Jiangmen City, Guangdong, China, produces smart circuit breakers and other essential electrification technologies, supporting China’s transition to sustainable energy systems. Mission to Zero™ is ABB’s program to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency at its sites. A scalable program, Mission to Zero™ covers energy generation, energy management and building automation for industrial and commercial operations.
Gary Cao, General Manager at ABB Xinhui, said: “Mission to Zero™ empowers our people to take action on sustainability. The ABB AbilityTM Energy Manager platform gives us the tools to drive and measure energy efficiency. We have adopted green energy sourcing strategies and vehicle fleet electrification. ABB Xinhui’s progress demonstrates the power of embedding sustainability in operational data and for our people to drive change.”
The ABB AbilityTM Energy Manager provides a scalable digital platform for effective energy management in dynamic industrial and commercial environments. The cloud-based platform provided data capture and analysis for actionable, real-time insights that enabled the Xinhui team to deliver 932 MWh of energy savings, 16.5 percent less than 2019.
In line with ABB’s commitment to enable a low-carbon society, 82 percent of the site’s electricity is sourced from a local hydro-electric power plant. A new solar rooftop power system generates the remaining 18 percent of the site’s power requirements.
Vehicle fleet electrification has supported a 189t reduction in Scope 1 CO2e emissions at the site. Seven electric buses provide a zero-emission commute for the site’s 820 employees, and ABB Xinhui’s 51 forklifts are now also pure electric.
Xinhui has also received a gold rating for zero waste to landfill. The claim was independently verified by the UL2799A Environmental Claim Validation Procedure for Zero Waste Classification standard. The site has achieved 97% diversion from landfill.
