ABB and EVIQ charge up EV transition in Middle East, with ABB Terra 360 installation

ABB and e-mobility partners Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Co (EVIQ), have passed a milestone in the Middle East’s transition to electric vehicles, by installing the first ABB Terra 360 chargers for public use in Saudi Arabia.

The landmark installation marks the start of EVIQ’s commitment to bring more than 5,000 chargers online across 1,000-plus strategic locations in the kingdom by 2030. The installation of the ABB Terra 360 signifies a pivotal moment in the evolution of Saudi Arabia's electric vehicle charging infrastructure. As the Kingdom embraces sustainable transportation solutions, the ABB Terra 360 sets the standard for future-ready, high-performance charging stations.

Its modular design ensures scalability and flexibility, allowing for easy integration into various locations, including public spaces, commercial areas, and highways. ABB Terra 360 is equipped with a user-friendly interface, making it accessible for all-electric vehicle owners.

Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) in a joint venture arrangement, EVIQ has become a key player in the country’s rollout of EV charging stations, which are intended to transform its charging infrastructure and drive the transition to sustainable mobility.

EVIQ also recently unveiled a new research and development center facility in Riyadh, dedicated to testing next-generation charging solutions tailored to the needs of the Saudi market.

The collaboration between EVIQ and ABB aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which embodies a shared goal for a more sustainable future by promoting widespread electric vehicle adoption, reducing carbon emissions, and creating a cleaner future for the Kingdom.

Ahmad Alhussein, ABB Saudi Arabia Electrification Commercial Leader, said: ‘‘We are proud to support EVIQ's vision for Saudi Arabia's EV landscape. Our combined expertise will pave the way for a seamless and convenient charging experience for EV drivers. We aim to empower individuals and businesses to embrace sustainable mobility and contribute to a greener tomorrow.‘‘

Mohammad Baker Gazzaz, CEO of EVIQ, added: “This is an important step for EVIQ, launching our first fast-charging location in Riyadh. It signals our strong commitment to support the growth of electric mobility and enabling the EV ecosystem in Saudi Arabia. With the support from our partner ABB, we are confident that this journey will be a remarkable one.”

ABB’s leading role in the EV transition has been highlighted in the Middle East since 2018, with the hosting of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship races in Diryiah.
