- New range of modular protection devices with push-in technology save up to 50 percent of installation time
- Innovative terminal allows for a range of devices to be flexibly combined
- Space saved in the consumer unit through slim design
ABB today launched its new range of modular protection devices, FlexLine® to provide an easier, faster, and more flexible installation in residential and small commercial buildings. The FlexLine® series covers Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs), Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs), all designed with push-in technology so they can be flexibly combined on one single busbar type. FlexLine® is announced as a winner of a Designplus Award by Light + Building which honors innovative products, systems, or ideas at this year’s fair.
Christian Völker, Global Product Manager for Line Protection devices at ABB Electrification Smart Buildings said, “In construction projects, there are continual pressures on time, made worse by ongoing labor market shortages in many territories. With FlexLine®, installers can save up to 50 percent of wiring time, and thanks to its great flexibility, space requirements and stockkeeping can be reduced significantly as well.”
The use of tools is minimized during the installation of the FlexLine® series. Instead of screwing, cables are inserted by pushing horizontally against the opening of the load-side push-in terminals for devices up to 20-amp. The force of the spring keeps the pressure on the cable at a constant level, eliminating the need to tighten them after installation.
In terms of mounting the busbars, FlexLine® offers a one-size-fits-all approach. Whenever the neutral terminals are not required, the flex terminals accommodate this busbar pin without any mechanical or electrical connection. However, both the devices as well as the busbar can be supplied with cable via a dedicated screw terminal that is designed to allow the use of various cable types. All FlexLine® protection devices can be combined with only one busbar, as the phase sequence is always the same, thereby significantly reducing stockkeeping.
Given the evolving requirements in residential and small commercial buildings, FlexLine® allows room for adding smart automation devices.
