The atmosphere at ABB’s booth at this year’s SPS IPC Drives was buzzing with energy as the company showcased the best it has to offer in new motor and drive technology and innovations, as well as its digital connected services. The leading trade fair for smart and digital automation, which took place in Nuremberg, Germany from November 27-29, provided opportunities for deep discussions with ABB customers to develop individual business solutions.
During live workshops at the ABB trade fair booth customers discussed with ABB’s digital experts how the digital transformation will impact their industry, and identify solutions for their businesses.
Highlights from ABB’s showcase included:
--Previewing ABB’s Asset Management Application, which is a digital solution that enables process industries to manage and protect their assets through predictive and preventative maintenance to avoid costly failures. Cost effective management becomes a reality through the optimization of workflows and in-depth analysis of results, offering efficient asset management strategies that enable smarter, more informed decisions.
The Asset Management Application will be launched in the second half of 2019. It sits within ABB AbilityTM, ABB’s digital offering, which includes more than 210 Industrial Internet solutions and an Industrial Internet technology platform and cloud infrastructure.
--The new first-of-its-kind Cable Protection System smart sensor technology, currently under development in ABB’s Research & Development facility in Switzerland, will be designed to sense such problems as condensation or rising temperatures in the conduit that protects critical electrical cables. Using the analytical power and secure cloud-based communication of the ABB Ability™ platform, the system will remotely report and analyze data, allowing facility managers and engineers to keep tabs on their electrical cable protection through smart phones, laptops or other remote devices.
--Building on ABB’s digital technology leadership, ABB Ability™ Digital Powertrain was showcased as well. ABB Ability™ Digital Powertrain is a digital solution consolidating sensor and drive data with cloud-based analysis of all components in an industrial system into a single unit – from frequency converters and motors to pumps and bearings. This makes decisions on key issues, such as maintenance tasks, more informed and reliable, while reducing the risk of downtime.
