Sustainable transportation highlights Saudi energy transition as ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to Diriyah this weekend, with two night races around the historic UNESCO World Heritage site.

  •  Season 10 of the all-electric motorsport championship continues in Diriyah
  • ABB driving sustainable transportation on- and off-track with Middle East’s first Terra 360 charger installation
  • Technology leader joins Saudi Arabia’s Regional Headquarters Program

ABB has been implementing technology solutions in Saudi Arabia for more than 70 years. It has more than 400 employees, is headquartered in Riyadh and has factories, workshops and offices in Jeddah and Dammam. In Dammam, ABB has inaugurated a new facility for the manufacturing and assembly of Process Automation products, systems and services. This has created several jobs in the Eastern region, encouraging the transfer of knowledge and development of local expertise.

ABB has also joined the Kingdom’s Regional Headquarters Program, enabling it to continue to contribute to the development of national talent and reinforcing its commitment to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

ABB’s technology will be further showcased in Diriyah as part of the FIA Girls on Track program, which offers girls aged 12 to 18 the opportunity to explore the different aspects of the motorsport industry through a set of activities and workshops. As the Official Charging Partner of the championship, ABB is running a workshop with its Terra AC to teach the program attendees about its charging technology used in the series and on the road.

During the race weekend drivers will battle on the 21-turn, 2.49 km, LED-lit Diriyah track. Featuring a technical first sector leading into a series of fast changes in quick succession and ending with a long straight to close out the lap, it is a test of energy management and strategy.

Following the races in Diriyah, the Championship heads to São Paulo, Brazil, for a race on March 16th. The season calendar comprises 16 races in 10 global locations, including new venues Shanghai, Misano and Tokyo.

ABB is a technology leader in electrification and automation, enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. The company’s solutions connect engineering know-how and software to optimize how things are manufactured, moved, powered and operated. Building on more than 140 years of excellence, ABB’s ~105,000 employees are committed to driving innovations that accelerate industrial transformation.  www.abb.com
