Currently, China's economy is at the key stage of transformation, structural optimization and upgrading, as well as a transition from old to new drivers. The application of digital technology and intelligent technology has increasingly become the new driver of this transformation. Improving the manufacturing innovation capability and industrial automation level is an important approach to realizing this strategic goal. Open to professionals engaged in the automation and digital fields from enterprises, public institutions, universities and research institutes, the ABB Cup National Intelligent Technology Thesis Contest aims to promote close integration of academic research and industrial development, as well as provide new ideas and new impetus for digital and intelligent development of the industrial economy in China.

Dr. Qianjin Liu, Head of the ABB Corporate Research Center in China and Chief Technology Officer said at the ceremony, "Having rounded up experiences from past events, this year’s contest gave more attention to innovation and application regarding the intelligent technology. The competition aims to offer a platform to stimulate domestic innovations and deepen cooperation among industry, academia and research, and help turn research results into real business, which is expected to give a competitive edge for Chinese enterprises in future industrial transformation."

This year was the first time that the contest adopted online voting in addition to the traditional jury. The new competing system, higher awards and more emphasis on application technology practice attracted active participation of the professional circle. The contest received 591 theses in all and shortlisted 15 for the finals. Online interested viewers had topped 18,000. Through fair, justified and orderly review by experts from all relevant fields, 83 theses were included in the final theses collection, among which 43 were nominated for the final review.
