ABB is the second most popular engineering employer in Finland

Engineering students have selected ABB as the second most popular employer in Finland. In Universum’s annual student ranking, ABB was also selected as the most ideal employer in its field once again.

ABB has been ranked in the top three of the Universum student rankings for several years in a row. Last year's bronze status has now brightened to silver.

"I warmly thank the engineering students for this honor. It is a pleasure to achieve such a great ranking again and to receive this award," said Henri Hilke, Country HR Manager at ABB Finland, at the award ceremony in Helsinki on Tuesday evening.

"ABB is a successful company and financially in good shape, which creates a good basis for everything we do. We are developing leading technologies in many areas to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. Working on them is interesting and meaningful," says Henri of the attractions that appeal to students.

"I want to congratulate the whole company on this great result," said ABB Finland's Managing Director Pekka Tiitinen. "ABB Finland's Employer Branding team does fantastic work with our businesses throughout the year in many areas, so it's great to receive this prestigious recognition from the engineering students."

Future talents are attracted by a variety of assignments in a friendly working environment

More than 13,222 students participated in the survey this year, of which 3,125 were engineering students. The report highlights the employers that students find the most attractive, what they want from their ideal employer and the qualities they associate with the employers.

Also this year, students most appreciated the variety of job opportunities. The second most important thing for students in the workplace is a friendly working atmosphere, followed by a competitive base salary, good future earnings, flexible working conditions and secure employment. Inspiring leadership and a clear career path were top increasing attributes.

"ABB aims for good leadership and invests in the development of its leaders. We strive to create a well-functioning and development-oriented work community with a good spirit and where opportunities for continuous learning are created and collaboration helps everyone to succeed," says Henri.

International everyday life

This year, ABB Finland received around 11,000 applications for their roughly 800 summer internship positions. "We are excited to once again welcome all summer interns to join us to learn new things and share their insights," says Maria Pasanen, Country Manager, University Relations, Early Talents & Employer Branding.

“Besides summer internships, we offer students in different industries internship positions and opportunities for thesis work. Many of the students continue as part-time employees with us after summer internships and complete their thesis with us. Our goal is that many of them will have a longer career at ABB," Maria says.

"There are many opportunities. As a large global company, we are truly international: we operate in more than 100 countries, and in many positions you get to work with experts from many different cultures. In Finland alone, we have colleagues from 67 different nationalities," Henri continues.

ABB operates in 20 locations in Finland and employs approximately 5,000 professionals, many of whom work in research and development. In Finland, we are promoting, for example ,sustainable marine operations and producing energy-efficient motors and frequency converters that can lower the energy consumption of the world by up to 10 per cent in use of our clients. ABB's sustainability agenda’s focus areas of enabling a low-carbon society, preserving natural resources and promoting social progress are embedded across our business.
