In a perfect world, a VSD is installed in a location that can only be accessed by authorized personnel only. However, some installations end up with drives located in a public location. Parking garages are a good example.
While I’d prefer a “cage” be installed around the drive, that doesn’t always happen. In these situations, curious people may want to start pressing buttons (I admit, I’m one of those curious people – but I know not to change anything).
These locations typically result in a passcode protecting the parameters, so nobody can change the settings. But what about the HAND OFF AUTO buttons? The last thing we want is someone to turn the drive OFF, especially in a parking garage where you want air exchanges.'
The ABB ACH580 provides the ability to disable the HAND button or both HAND and OFF buttons for these types of applications. I wouldn’t recommend this for your standard HVACR application. However, for situations where the drive can be accessed by non-authorized individuals, it is definitely something to consider.
