ABB attends China International Import Expo 2018 and signs a number of cooperation agreements with Chinese companies
The China International Import Expo 2018 (CIIE 2018) kicked off in Shanghai on November 5, 2018. ABB showcased more than 30 leading products and solutions developed and manufactured in eight countries, covering such fields as the digital power grid, smart manufacturing and smart transportation. ABB also signed contracts and agreements with many Chinese partners, writing a new chapter of expanding all-round cooperation.
The CIIE is the world’s first national import-themed expo, which shows China’s firm support to economic globalization and trade liberalization. With a history of innovation spanning more than 130 years, today ABB covers the entire value chain of power and industrial automation. Many of ABB’s world-leading products and technologies were on display at the brand-new platform of CIIE.
ABB has nine R&D centers in seven countries around the world and a scientific research team composed of 8,500 scientists and engineers. With annual R&D investments of around USD 1.5 billion, ABB is committed to promoting technical innovation and leading industrial development. In China, ABB is actively providing strong technical support and sharing research achievements to meet local customers’ demand, supporting China’s efforts to become an innovative country.
In the utilities sector, ABB is dedicated to helping customers improve grid capacity and reliability, increase energy efficiency and reduce their impact on the environment, contributing to a stronger, smarter and greener grid. From digital power grid, to HVDC Light, generator circuit breakers, ABB Ability Ellipse asset performance management, transformer components and digital service, as well as renewable energy solutions are exhibited at the expo. ABB CoreSense™ M10 multi-gas DGA analyzer, for example, is developed and manufactured in Canada, provides real-time, continuous, online monitoring of nine kinds of dissolved gas and moisture levels in transformer oil in order to minimize the risks and greatly reduce maintenance cost. It has been used in China market to support customers such as State Grid Corporation of China in extending equipment life cycle and ensuring the safety of power system.
In line with the development trend of automation, digitalization and intelligence of China’s manufacturing industry, ABB displayed a number of leading products and technologies developed in Germany, Sweden, Austria, Finland, Italy and so on for smart manufacturing. For example, ABB IRB 2600 compact robot with high precision, high speed and high load is suitable for material handling, arc welding and other processing applications, which can help manufacturing enterprises to effectively improve production efficiency; the ABB Ability™ smart sensors for motors with built-in multiple sensors and cloud-based applications, have successfully assisted several domestic industrial customers to realize predictive maintenance, shorten downtime, extend service life and reduce energy consumption.
ABB B&R demonstrates its full portfolio and integrated solutions for different industries through the automation Studio platform, and ACOPOStrak flexible transmission system that will greatly simplify the traditional production line design, making it possible to produce orders with the minimum batch and bringing the maximum flexibility for the production of 3C, automotive electronics, food and beverage industries.
ABB is well positioned to drive progress through its unrivalled expertise in utilities and industrial automation, together with its deep insights into the transport and infrastructure industries. By providing intelligent charging systems for electric vehicles, buses and trucks together with ABB AbilityTM digital solutions, ABB is dedicated to supporting China to build a sustainable transportation system. The displayed ABB Azipod ® propulsion, which is developed in Finland, is one of the world's first electric propeller propulsion system placed outside of the hull and helps improve energy efficiency and maneuverability of the ship.
In the infrastructure sector, building automation technology, such as the ABB i-bus® KNX facilitates greater energy efficiency allowing everything from lighting to temperature control to be automated so that every aspect of running a building can be optimized to reduce costs and maximize comfort, whether for a family home, an airport, or an office building.
To promote further cooperation, during the CIIE, ABB will exchange opinions on the cutting-edge technologies and will sign a series of cooperation agreements with many Chinese companies in the fields of utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure, including State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Baowu Group, China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) to drive technical innovation and promote global cooperation.
The CIIE not only brings opportunities for enterprises, but also offers a development platform for countries along the "The Belt and Road". With a global business network and abundant overseas project management experience, ABB has provided more than 400 Chinese enterprises with consultancy, design, engineering and various services. ABB has also helped them solve problems in design standards in different countries with ABB Ability™ digital solutions to reduce project costs and engineering risk.
The first CIIE has attracted over 2,800 enterprises from more than 130 countries and regions. Numerous international state-of-the-art products and solutions are on display, providing opportunities for Chinese enterprises to introduce advanced technologies to the local market. It also clearly indicates the direction of innovation across the various fields. The Expo helps to facilitate trade between countries and regions all over the world to strengthen global economic cooperation and trade for a more open global economy.
