ABB Smart Power’s Garbagnate Monastero facility in Italy has achieved a Gold rating for Zero Waste to Landfill, independently validated by UL Solutions using UL 2799, the Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Zero Waste to Landfill. The site, which produces enclosures for low-voltage power distribution systems, successfully diverted 99% of its waste from landfill in 2023.

Achieving Zero waste to landfill requires a comprehensive, responsible approach to production, consumption and disposal of materials. Through UL Solutions’ independent Environmental Claim Validation program, ABB has demonstrated a responsible, progressive approach to handling waste.”
The Garbagnate Monastero facility joins a growing number of UL Solutions-validated ABB sites developing and sharing best practices to deliver ABB’s zero waste to landfill commitment. As an ABB Center of Excellence for the development and manufacture of enclosures, the processes developed by teams at Garbagnate Monastero will be adopted by other ABB Smart Power facilities worldwide.

The site’s team of >130 people produce more than 50.000 enclosure columns per year. They send 19 different types of material to recycling and are working to eliminate waste sent to energy recovery and landfill.
