ABB Indonesia and SKF Industrial Indonesia, today signed a Frame Agreement to bring advanced industrial automation solutions, enhance customer support, and strengthen energy efficiency across Indonesia’s key industries. In line with Indonesia’s long-term sustainable development goals, this partnership aims to drive productivity and sustainability in key sectors, including power generation, mining, cement, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and rail transportation.
This agreement builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2022 between then-ABB CEO Bjorn Rosengren and SKF CEO Rickard Gustafson, reaffirming both companies' commitment to global collaboration. The local framework agreement in Indonesia signifies the tangible realization of this global partnership, tailored to address the unique needs of Indonesia’s dynamic industrial landscape.
President Director & Country Holding Officer of ABB Indonesia, Gerard Chan, emphasized that this framework agreement establishes a strong foundation for collaboration between ABB Indonesia and PT SKF Industrial Indonesia. “We are excited to partner with PT SKF Industrial Indonesia to help our clients achieve new standards of efficiency and reliability in their operations. This agreement reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that drive productivity and support Indonesia’s industrial growth,” said Gerard.
Country Managing Director & President Director of PT SKF Industrial Indonesia, Satheswaran Mayachandran added, “The specific needs of Indonesia’s key industries require flexible, integrated solutions that this partnership is uniquely equipped to deliver. This alliance represents a significant step forward in how we serve our customers and advance energy-efficient technologies. Thus, we’re not only enhancing product availability and support through new facilities, but also elevating operational standards that lead to significant cost savings and environmental gains for our clients.”
This collaboration is set to bring practical and measurable benefits to Indonesian industries by addressing critical pain points:
- Energy Efficiency and Cost Reduction: By integrating SKF’s precision-engineered bearings into ABB’s motors and robotics, Indonesian industries can achieve substantial energy savings. In sectors like mining and cement, where equipment is energy-intensive, these enhancements translate to lower operational costs and improved margins.
- Enhanced Reliability in High-Demand Environments: Industries such as petrochemicals and oil and gas require high uptime and reliability. ABB and SKF’s joint solutions will provide robust, resilient systems that minimize downtime, reduce maintenance requirements, and extend equipment life, thus supporting uninterrupted production.
- Localized Support for Faster Response Times: SKF’s new facility in Surabaya, combined with planned upgrades to its Jakarta operations, ensures local availability of parts and faster maintenance responses, which are critical for Indonesian businesses looking to maintain operational continuity in remote and high-demand regions.
- Advanced Support Services and Customized Solutions: The agreement will provide Indonesian industries with tailored service packages, offering flexibility and speed in troubleshooting and maintenance. ABB and SKF’s combined support will be especially valuable in sectors requiring complex, industry-specific solutions, such as cement production and rail transportation.
Vice President of Services, Motion, ABB in Indonesia, Dedy Hidayat, remarked, “This collaboration brings together ABB’s automation capabilities and SKF’s engineering precision to address Indonesia’s critical industry needs. We’re empowering businesses to adopt smarter, greener operations that improve productivity while minimizing environmental impact, paving the way for a sustainable industrial future”.
Anis Lutfi, Head of Department, Segment Sales, highlighted, “This collaboration combines ABB’s automation expertise with SKF’s engineered precision bearing to address critical needs in Indonesia’s industrial sector. Together, we’re enabling businesses to embrace digitalization, zero emissions operations that boost productivity and reduce environmental impact, setting the stage for a sustainable industrial future.”
The ABB-SKF framework sets a foundation for Indonesian industries to harness cutting-edge automation technology, address pressing operational challenges, and meet the growing demand for sustainability. Through this partnership, both companies are committed to accelerating Indonesia’s transition toward Industry 4.0 while providing specific, actionable solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the resilience of critical sectors.
