- New AMR Center in Madrid provides customer and partner training and showcases cutting-edge mobile robotics technologies
- Showroom features ABB’s advanced AMRs with AI-based Visual SLAM technology, plus its AMR Studio virtual system design software
ABB Robotics has opened a new training and showroom facility for its Autonomous Mobile Robotics product line (AMRs) in Madrid, Spain. Designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the rapidly expanding AMR market, the center offers a learning environment and platform for showcasing ABB’s advanced AMR technology to customers, partners, and employees.
“With enhanced capabilities enabled by AI and 3D vision technology, AMRs are revolutionizing logistics and manufacturing by enhancing efficiency, boosting flexibility, and improving safety. As demand for AMRs continues to grow, there will also be a need for more skilled people who can program, operate, and maintain them,” said Marc Segura, President, ABB Robotics. “ABB’s AMR Center will address this by providing in-depth training that will enable companies to upskill their employees to work with our AMRs and software.”
AMRs are increasingly vital for autonomously transporting loads and streamlining workflows. According to the latest statistics from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), around 113,000 units were sold worldwide in 2023[1], an increase of 35 percent from 2022, with demand driven by industries including logistics, automotive, and consumer goods. Developments in technology and the move towards automated production lines are set to drive growth further, with analysts predicting a compound annual growth rate of 17.5 percent between 2023 and 2028[2].
The AMR Center’s state-of-the-art training and showroom facilities will enable businesses to explore the potential of AMRs and equip their workers with the skills to deploy, operate, and support them in logistics and intralogistics applications.
The center’s training programs focus on enabling faster commissioning, reducing downtime, and maximizing the return on investment for customers. Covering preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as software upgrades and fault diagnosis, training topics cater to a wide audience, including maintenance technicians, automation engineers, and plant managers. This same training will also be available to ABB’s employees to keep them up to date on the latest technologies and safety procedures.
In addition to training, the facility’s showroom demonstrates the versatility of ABB’s AMR portfolio. Visitors can see AMRs including the Flexley Tug, Flexley Mover and Flexley Stack in action, alongside advanced systems integrating Visual SLAM machine vision technology and AMR Studio® software. These innovations enable robots to navigate autonomously in dynamic environments and allow businesses to design and test robotic systems virtually, speeding up on-site implementation.
Since its opening, the AMR Center has hosted its first major event, the ‘IntraLog Summit,’ bringing industry leaders together to explore advancements in robotics. Future plans for 2025 include product launches, partner events, and sector-specific gatherings aimed at industries such as logistics and automotive.
