ABB launches new smart energy management solution for optimized home energy use

  • Intelligent automation makes home energy management easier than ever, optimizing energy consumption for efficiency and cost savings
  • Seamless integration with ABB-free@home® for enhanced smart home compatibility
  • Supports integration of third-party devices from more than 300 manufacturers, ensuring flexibility and future-ready energy management

ABB has today announced the launch of ABB Smart EMS, a smart energy management solution that puts homeowners in control of their energy use – cutting costs, maximizing efficiency, and automating energy management – all controlled through an intuitive app.

ABB Smart EMS automates energy flows, ensuring homeowners get the most out of every locally produced kilowatt while balancing energy costs and consumption. Whether managing solar energy production, EV charging, or high-energy appliances, it intelligently optimizes electricity use at the most cost-effective time, maximizing efficiency with minimal effort, while continuously monitoring and optimizing the electrical infrastructure through smart load balancing and dynamic load prioritization.

As energy prices rise and home electrification accelerates, smart energy management is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity.ABB Smart EMS gives homeowners greater control over their energy use, working as a standalone energy management solution or seamlessly integrating with ABB-free@home® and, later in the year, KNX smart home systems.

ABB Smart EMS sets a new standard in energy management, making it easier than ever for homeowners. With the industry’s largest library of compatible devices, it supports over 300 third-party brands, including inverters, smart meters, energy storage systems, EV chargers, and heat pumps, ensuring long-term flexibility and compatibility.

This new smart energy management solution delivers significant benefits for both homeowners and installers. For homeowners, the system helps lower utility bills by automating energy use at the most cost-efficient times. Through a user-friendly app, they can monitor real-time and historical energy consumption, track tariffs, and manage connected devices with ease. ABB Smart EMS also offers seamless integration, allowing users to connect and control a wide range of home appliances and energy devices effortlessly.

For installers, ABB Smart EMS ensures a quick and hassle-free installation with an intuitive setup process that takes just minutes. Its remote monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities through the ABB ProService portal enable proactive system maintenance, improving customer support and reducing service visits. Future-proof and designed for scalability, ABB Smart EMS is suitable for both single-family and multi-family buildings, providing a solution that adapts to the evolving energy needs of today and tomorrow.

Raimondo Salandra, Business Line Leader, Home Solutions at ABB Smart Buildings, said: "With energy prices rising across Europe – especially in countries like Germany – homeowners are seeking smarter, more sustainable ways to manage their electricity use. It’s not just about saving money; it’s also about reducing environmental impact and bringing the same digital ease to energy management that they already enjoy in other parts of life. ABB Smart EMS makes that possible by automating energy optimization, lowering costs, and enhancing efficiency. It’s a key enabler of sustainable living, making home electrification simple, intelligent, and future-ready.”

ABB Smart EMS will be available first in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Belgium, with a broader rollout expected at a later stage. The solution will be immediately compatible with ABB-free@home®, with planned integration with KNX launching later in the year.
