The Motion Services Team in Malaysia hosted its first Energy Efficiency Expert Day outside Kuala Lumpur, selecting Bintulu as the venue. Held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Bintulu has been recognized by the World Economic Forum as one of the four emerging low-carbon industrial clusters globally, supporting Sarawak’s ambition to lead the region’s energy transition.
The exclusive event brought together industry professionals, partners, and stakeholders to discuss technologies aimed at advancing energy efficiency in Bintulu. Participants delved into the topics presented, exchanged ideas, and discussed barriers to adopting energy-efficient solutions across various industries.
Pearl Ong, Regional Service Manager for Motion Services at ABB, opened the program by highlighting ABB’s leadership in electrification and automation, which helps customers outrun, learner and cleaner. Christophe Begot, Global Sales Support Manager for Motion Digital Services at ABB, followed with a presentation on how digital solutions can enhance operational performance and help companies achieve their sustainability goals.
Dr. Ankush Gulati, Global Program Lead for Energy Efficiency at ABB, shared his wealth of knowledge on the topic by providing insights into the path towards industrial energy efficiency. This set the stage for Megat Hakimi, Technical & Application Engineer, IEC LV Motors Division, Motion, ABB, who presented an overview of the ultra-premium efficiency IE5 SynRM motors. Robert Yeoh, Energy Efficiency Champion & Registered Energy Manager (REM-type 2), Motion Services, ABB, later shared successful case studies demonstrating the energy savings and return on investment achieved through the deployment of ABB drives and motor solutions.
The event concluded with remarks from Kanavati Siban, Local Division Manager for Motion Services in Malaysia, who emphasized the critical role of energy efficiency in today’s business environment. “From my interactions with the business community here, I’ve seen a genuine willingness to embrace innovation and leverage leading technologies to enhance the local economy and quality of life,” he remarked. “This spirit aligns with ABB’s commitment to enabling a low-carbon society, preserving resources, and promoting social progress for a net-zero future.”
