ABB meets demand for more advanced electrification technology for India

ABB has opened two new production lines at its state-of-the-art facility in Nelamangala, India. The highly automated lines bring high levels of efficiency and quality to the production of essential electrification technologies for smart industries.

These next-generation lines integrate cutting-edge technologies such as collaborative robots (cobots), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), AI-powered vision systems, and Industry 5.0 principles — a first for ABB in India. The integration of ABB products such as AF Contactors, OT Plus, and YuMi robots addresses critical challenges in manufacturing. ABB's new lines automatically manage different sizes without interruption, saving time and improving quality.

"With the launch of these advanced production lines, we are increasing our production capacity and delivering the highest standards of smart manufacturing," said Pietro Esposto, Head of Industry & Control ABB Electrification. "Our commitment to innovation and sustainability will empower local industries and strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing hub”.

The new automation lines are set to achieve remarkable outcomes:

  • Increased Production: The lines support the ambitious growth targets in the region with 150,000 switches annually on just one line, significantly boosting output.
  • Higher Productivity: ABB robots work with our employees to maximize output while minimizing the physical space required.
  • Global Standards: These smart production lines meet international quality and efficiency standards, firmly establishing India at the center of ABB's global supply chain.

ABB's commitment to sustainability is evident in the energy-efficient technologies employed in these production lines. The use of magnetic levitation and AI minimizes energy and material waste during the process, while precision production techniques reduce downtime and scrap, leading to fewer defective products and less industrial waste.

By producing more locally, ABB is also contributing to a reduction in international shipping emissions, supporting a smaller carbon footprint and a more sustainable future.
