ABB’s revolutionary Azipod® gearless steerable propulsion system has been enhancing efficiency and maneuverability in the cruise industry for three decades. For operators looking to fully exploit their vessel’s performance benefits while maximizing safety, proper training is essential.
ABB’s Marine Academy offers a variety of maritime training courses – including several relating specifically to Azipod® propulsion for cruise ships – from locations around the world. Now, thanks to the new partnership between ABB and maritime training provider Simwave, specialized Azipod® propulsion courses will be available in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Hands-on simulation and practical lessons
Simwave’s Centre of Excellence in Rotterdam becomes the fourth location to host Azipod® propulsion training courses after ABB’s facilities in Helsinki and Turku, Finland, and Hamburg, Germany. Offering the latest and most advanced simulation equipment on the market, it enables ship captains and bridge officers to get the feel of hands-on experience of Azipod® propulsion operations and gain the in-depth knowledge they need to ensure optimal safety and efficiency.
A total of four courses will be available at Simwave’s state-of-the-art facility. Covering twin- and triple-Azipod® unit cruise vessel operations at operational and management levels, the comprehensive programs aim to enhance ship-handling skills, improve operational efficiency, and ultimately promote safer and more sustainable maritime operations. Future initiatives will also explore automation and technical training for engineering departments.
