Meeting the challenge of a fast-changing energy landscape 

In the Netherlands, regional grid operator Enexis is at the forefront of the energy transition. As electrification accelerates and sustainability goals intensify, the company faces rising urgency to expand grid capacity and modernize aging infrastructure. 

In 2024, Enexis launched a refined strategy to address these challenges, focusing on the rapid deployment of advanced medium-voltage infrastructure. 

The challenges were clear: 

  • Deliver projects on time to avoid delays.  
  • Comply with evolving safety and environmental regulations, including alternatives to SF₆ gas.
  • Prepare for unpredictable future electricity demand shaped by political and economic developments. 

To achieve these significant milestones, Enexis required a partner capable of delivering reliable, scalable, and future-ready solutions efficiently. 

A forward-looking alliance 

Under a new framework agreement, ABB is supplying 150 panels of UniGear ZS1 medium-voltage air-insulated switchgear. This solution is recognized for its compact design, versatility, and high safety standards, supporting both immediate deployment and long-term grid resilience. 

ABB will provide engineering support, project management, and commissioning expertise to help Enexis meet its modernization goals effectively. The alliance is founded on technical competence and a mutual commitment to compliance and reliability, bolstered by ABB’s global presence and local expertise.
