As part of a broader rollout of 10 EV charging bays, the two state-of-the-art 400kW chargers are strategically located in a dedicated drive-through hub, enabling EV trucks and larger EVs with trailers to charge. This marks a significant milestone for Ampol's public charging network and commitment to support the growing demand for charging infrastructure.
With the ability to charge EVs from 10% to 80% in less than half an hour, depending on the vehicle, battery size and state of battery charge, the A400 provides a seamless and efficient charging experience. This is especially vital for heavy EV drivers who require quick turnaround times to minimise downtime on the road.

Ampol will also deploy ABB’s Energy Management solution, supported by an on-site Terra Gateway Pro (TGP) controller, alongside ABB’s Digital Monitoring Tools. This integrated approach will enable real-time monitoring, remote configuration, and intelligent control of the site’s charging infrastructure. Advanced power-sharing algorithms will dynamically distribute available electricity capacity within grid limits during peak demand. The Eastern Creek site will be the first in Australia to pair a 400kW charger with ABB's Energy Management capabilities.

Sean Stove, ABB, E-Mobility Division Manager APAC, said: "We are thrilled to work with Ampol in this groundbreaking initiative. The A400 chargers represent the future of EV charging, particularly for heavy vehicles and for public charging in general. By providing fast and reliable charging solutions, we are helping to support the electrification transition in the transport sector in Australia. This project has showcased ABB’s technical expertise and fast execution."
Patrick Luxton, General Manager Energy Value Chain from Ampol, said: "The installation of ABB's A400 chargers is a significant step forward in our commitment to powering better journeys for our customers. We are excited to integrate ultra-fast charging capabilities into our Ampol Foodary Eastern Creek Westbound site as we continue to cater for the evolving needs of our customers through the energy transition."

"We are particularly excited to introduce a new generation in user experience, introducing an interface developed by engineers recruited from Android and Google to simplify the charging experience, and give operators the opportunity to share their brands’ messaging and targeted promotions."
