ABB opens first Drive Service Workshop in Canada

  • ABB invests $1.65M to open its first Canadian repair service for drives in Milton (Ontario), strengthening local service capabilities for the industry.
  • State-of-the-art Drive Service Workshop closer to customers will cut turnaround times by up to four weeks, reducing logistics costs and emissions.
  • The new facility expands ABB’s service portfolio and creates jobs to support Ontario’s industrial growth

ABB announced today the opening of Canada’s first Drive Service Workshop (DSW). Backed by a $1.65 million investment and creation of new skilled jobs, the state-of-the-art facility reinforces ABB’s position as a trusted partner to local industries.

The new Milton DSW strengthens customer care, delivering advanced maintenance and diagnostic services closer to where industrial players are located, while fostering expertise in next-generation service technologies. It also establishes a strategic hub for future growth in Canada’s industrial landscape.

Companies will benefit from a fast turnaround, local tracking, and measurable sustainability gains. Local drive repairs will cut lead times by up to four weeks, reducing logistics costs and boosting operational efficiency. Local tracking will increase visibility throughout the process, giving customers peace of mind. The Drives Service Workshop repair helps avoid up to 80% in carbon emissions compared to the replacement of a completely new drive. And, by eliminating international shipping, the workshop will also reduce an estimated 370 tCO₂e annually of emissions tied to transport. This investment reinforces ABB’s commitment to sustainable operations, turning circular practices into strategic advantages.

“This new facility demonstrates how ABB is helping industries outrun - leaner and cleaner,” said Hugues Therrien, Division Manager, ABB Motion Services, Canada. “By bringing services closer to our customers, we are reducing costs, improving reliability, and supporting circularity goals.”

More than a repair shop, the Milton DSW is a cornerstone for ABB’s future service portfolio growth in Canada—paving the way for modernization, digital-enabled services, and strengthening ABB’s leadership in motors, generators and drives.
