ABB partners with Sherby Racing on ambitious electric vehicle student project

ABB partnering with Sherby Racing, the student team from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke, as they take on an ambitious challenge: designing and building the team's first fully electric race vehicle for the international Formula SAE competition.

A student project with global reach

Since 1995, Sherby Racing has competed in Formula SAE, one of the world's largest university engineering competitions. This year marks a significant milestone: after three decades of designing combustion-engine vehicles, the team is making the leap to electric. ABB is supporting this transition by funding the acquisition of high-performance battery cells.

Simon Blanchet, a Sherby Racing member and former ABB intern, shares his perspective:

"This shift to electric represents a major technical challenge, but also an incredible opportunity for innovation. Thanks to ABB's support, we have the resources needed to turn this ambition into reality and showcase our expertise on the international stage."

Concrete commitment to the next generation

This partnership goes far beyond financial support—it reflects ABB's dedication to empowering the next generation of engineers and supporting the local South Shore Montreal community.

Danny Côté, Vice President of ABB Installation Products Canada, emphasizes:

"We're proud to support these students in their ambitious endeavor. By standing with them, we're helping to spark their curiosity, develop their skills and foster their creativity—all essential qualities for building tomorrow's energy workforce."

Heading to Formula SAE 2027

Sherby Racing will compete in Formula SAE 2027 in Michigan, where they'll face off against universities from around the world.

We wish Sherby Racing the very best of luck on this electrifying journey!
