ABB Malaysia has strengthened its innovation footprint with the launch of its new Customer Experience Center, officiated by YBhg Dato' Sri Mad Zaidi bin Mohd Karli, Secretary General, Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. Located at ABB Malaysia’s head office in Petaling Jaya, the state‑of‑the‑art center is designed to accelerate industrial transformation by enabling businesses to adopt advanced electrification, automation, and digital technologies that support Malaysia’s low‑carbon economy ambition.
Building on ABB’s long legacy of innovation, the Center underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s net‑zero emissions aspirations and innovation‑led growth. It aligns closely with national priorities outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), and the Malaysia MADANI agenda, which collectively aim to accelerate decarbonization, elevate industrial competitiveness, and drive the adoption of advanced technologies.
Designed as a collaborative and immersive space, the Customer Experience Center serves key economic sectors, including oil and gas, data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and other high‑growth industries. It provides customers with hands‑on access to a combination of the latest as well as proven ABB technologies, empowering them to co‑create, test, and deploy future‑ready solutions with greater speed and agility.
In his keynote address, YBhg Dato' Sri Mad Zaidi bin Mohd Karli said, “Our goal is for a cleaner, smarter, and more energy‑efficient society, with innovation and advanced technologies as the enabler. Through technology and innovation, we are confident that energy security can be further strengthened, emissions reduced, industries made more competitive, and the nation positioned to grow into a competitive, low‑carbon economy.
He added, “As a global trading nation, much of our focus is on sharpening Malaysia’s industrial edge in the age of carbon taxes and compliances such as EU’s Cross Border Adjustment Mechanism that took effect in January 2026. Industries account for about 50% of power consumption in the country. Through innovative technologies, they can optimize as well as decarbonize their operations.”
The ABB Malaysia Customer Experience Center allows end users, partners, original equipment manufacturers, system integrators, consultants and representatives from diverse industries to experience live demonstrations of smart and connected technologies that can improve performance while reducing environmental impact. Through real world applications, visitors can explore solutions that enhance energy efficiency, strengthen resource management and support long term sustainability goals.
Malaysia’s energy infrastructure has long been resilient, reliable, and stable - an achievement that has supported decades of progress, said Ms. Ho Siew Kim, ABB Malaysia’s Country Holding Officer in her opening address. “Yet at ABB, we believe that everything that runs well can always be engineered to run even better.
“Innovation has long been part of ABB’s DNA. By connecting our engineering and digitalization expertise, we anticipate future needs and empower industries to operate at high performance – to become more efficient, productive, and sustainable so they outperform. At ABB, we call this “Engineered to Outrun”.
At the launch, the Secretary General highlighted the urgent need for increased investment in Malaysia’s national grid. He noted that while PETRA is proud of its achievements in renewable energy generation, there remains a critical need to strengthen the resilience of the national grid and enhance the country’s battery storage capabilities. This will require substantial investment in grid infrastructure, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and system upgrades.
He emphasized the importance of investing in advanced technology solutions that are “good for today and scalable for tomorrow.” These include modern electrification systems, process automation, and energy storage solutions that can ensure a reliable, high‑quality power supply for consumers, with minimal disruption or outages. He also highlighted the need for predictive and digital technologies to enable better resource management, both for power and water systems, to enhance efficiency, resilience, and long‑term sustainability.
The ABB Malaysia Customer Experience Center has three sections:
- The ABB Electrification Section has on display the latest innovations in distribution systems, service enhancements, smart buildings, smart power, power protection and low voltage systems.
- As a global leader in motors and drives, the ABB Motion Section features the cutting-edge digital powertrain, IE5 Synchronous Reluctance Motors, ACS880 drive and OctaiPipe, an on-premise AI for Cooling Efficiency (ACE) solution. These solutions aim to reduce energy consumption and improve overall business sustainability.
- The Automation Section highlights the importance of measurement and analytics, B&R’s adaptive manufacturing capabilities, and also ABB’s distributed control system – System 800xA and Symphony Plus; with integration to digital solutions for energy industries.
In conjunction with the launch of the Center, ABB Malaysia has organized a four-day Innovation Forum, beginning 21 April 2026. Themed “Outrun the Ordinary: Empowerment through Innovation,” and aligned with ABB’s global brand positioning, “Engineered to Outrun”, it will spotlight ABB solutions for data centers, semiconductors, commercial and industrial sectors, process industries, water and wastewater, utilities, buildings and HVAC.
The Forum will bring together end-users, channel partners, manufacturers, system integrators, policymakers, industry leaders and professionals, academia, and ABB experts, to explore emerging trends, address shared challenges, and co create pathways toward a more sustainable and resilient Malaysia. “It reflects our belief that innovation does not happen in isolation; it thrives when diverse minds come together with a shared purpose,” said Ho.
The last day is dedicated to Student & Young Professional Engagement, with roundtable discussions and sharing-sessions on careers, industry trends and opportunities supporting the global energy transition. “This initiative aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of engineers by exposing them to ABB’s technologies and career pathways,” said Ho.
ABB is a global technology leader in electrification and automation, enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.
