Attica Group leads ferry sector digitalization with ABB Ability™ OneBox - Marine Signals Monitoring

Greece's leading ferry operator, Attica Group has taken a significant step toward fleet-wide digital transformation, partnering with ABB to deploy an integrated real-time monitoring solution across its fleet.

This initiative sets a new benchmark for operational visibility and data-driven performance management, in passenger ferry operations.

Operating with a fleet of 33 vessels, with highly demanding daily schedules and millions of passengers each year, Attica Group is committed to operational excellence, service reliability and the continuous improvement of its environmental performance. With a strong presence in Greek passenger shipping sector of more than 3 decades, the Group consistently ensures the safe, efficient and timely connection of people and communities.

To support the next phase of its digital transformation plan, Attica Group relied on ABB's expertise in marine digitalization, through the implementation of a high – value digital solution, taking an important first step toward smarter, faster decision making across its fleet operations.

From onboard systems to a unified fleet view

Attica Group sets a clear objective for a centralized, real-time monitoring approach designed to unify fleet performance data and deliver full transparency across the entire fleet.

ABB has delivered an integrated solution based on ABB Ability™ OneBox - Marine Signals Monitoring, combined with ABB and third-party systems. Once fully activated, operational, electrical and fuel consumption data will be consolidated into a single, intuitive dashboard, providing a unified view of fleet performance.

Real-time insight for proactive operations

With the application installed in 17 vessels so far, Attica Group is setting the grounds for real-time visibility that will enable its teams to identify deviations, detect emerging issues early and respond proactively before they affect schedules or passenger experience.

Continuous monitoring of fuel consumption and electrical performance supports more efficient operations on every itinerary.

"OneBox represents a key milestone in the evolution of our fleet monitoring capabilities. Following the successful pilot project on SUPERFAST I and SUPERFAST II and the currently installation in 17 vessels so far, we are progressing toward full real-time performance visibility via a single integrated dashboard. This empowers us to proactively address operational issues and continuously optimize fuel consumption on every voyage” explains George Anagnostou, Chief Operations Officer, Attica Group.

A practical and scalable approach to digitalization

A key advantage of the project is its practical and cost-effective implementation of a scalable digital solution seamlessly integrated with Attica Group's existing infrastructure and third-party systems, without complex system modifications or operational disruption.

"This project shows how fleet-wide digitalization can be implemented in a practical and cost-effective way. With ABB's digital solutions, Attica Group achieved precise fuel tracking, optimized electrical power management, and continuous performance analysis. From a service perspective, this ensures proactive support, improved reliability, and long-term operational confidence for ferry operators," comments Antonis Asimakopoulos, Service Manager, ABB's Marine & Ports division.
