ABB has expanded its low voltage drive portfolio for the water and wastewater marketing with the launch of the ACQ580-3P performance package, a configured-to-order ultra-low harmonic (ULH) packaged drive. The new ACQ580-3P joins ABB’s ACQ580-0P packaged drive family, utilizing an ultra-low harmonic (ULH) variable frequency drive (VFD), designed to deliver unity power factor and less than 3% THDi. As a result, it helps facilities meet IEEE 519 harmonic standards external harmonic mitigation equipment, supporting reliable pump system performance.
In addition to harmonic performance, the ACQ580-3P is engineered to ride through poor power quality conditions such as voltage sags and voltage imbalance, and to operate seamlessly on either primary utility power or emergency generators without external auxiliary controls.

The ACQ580-3P performance package offers a range of pre-engineered, configurable options tailored for water and wastewater applications, allowing customers to match the drive package to site requirements while benefiting from faster selection and delivery. Available options include a fusible disconnect with 100kA SCCR, surge protection, dv/dt filter, cabinet heater, 22mm and 30mm pilot devices, push-to-test LED indicators, speed potentiometer, start/stop buttons, emergency stop, elapsed time meter, Bluetooth control panel, and multiple communication options.
Available in ratings from 5 to 400 hp, the ACQ580-3P is offered in UL Type 1/12 (NEMA) enclosures for indoor installation, making it well suited for tight electrical rooms and retrofit applications. The drive package exceeds UL Type 1 and Type 12 standards, requires minimal side and rear clearance, and includes conformally coated circuit boards, a control power transformer, fans and filters, and a standard 65kA SCCR circuit breaker. Select models are available in Build America, Buy American (BABA) compliant configurations, helping meet domestic sourcing requirements for municipal and infrastructure projects.
Built specifically for water and wastewater operations, the ACQ580-3P includes embedded pump control and protection features that simplify commissioning and daily operation. A primary settings menu, built-in start-up assistants, and a diagnostic assistant help operators get the drive up and running quickly, while integrated application features such as cavitation detection and control, pump cleaning and deragging, pipe flush, dry pump and dry run protection, motor disconnect detection, motor pre-heat, communication fail detection, and intelligent pump control support reliable system performance.
Additional capabilities such as intelligent multi-pump control, pump priority, quick ramps, sensorless flow calculation, PI autotune, soft pipe filling, and more give water professionals a broad set of tools for optimizing pumping processes. Operators and maintenance personnel also benefit from a standard Hand-Off-Auto control panel designed using familiar water industry terminology. An optional Bluetooth control panel enables wireless commissioning and monitoring without opening the cabinet door.
