ABB India’s Drive Products facility recognized for manufacturing excellence and localization

The Drive Products manufacturing facility in Peenya, Bengaluru has won the Gold Award and AatmaNirbhar Factory Recognition Award at the 12th National Awards for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) for its contribution to manufacturing localization and excellence.

For the drives facility in Peenya, Bengaluru, the journey from Silver to Gold in the National Award for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) within a year reflects a sustained commitment to operational excellence, innovation and a culture of continuous improvement. The facility also received the AatmaNirbhar Factory Recognition Award for its contribution towards manufacturing localization and supporting India’s vision of self-reliance.

The award by International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM) is based on a rigorous evaluation that reviewed performance across product quality, supply chain efficiency, innovation, digital maturity, and workforce development. The assessment recognized the team’s strong progress in improving manufacturing setup to complement the business strategy.

“This award and the journey are a true reflection of our culture of continuous improvement. This reinforces our collective efforts by our people across operations and functions to continue building strong collaboration and adopting a customer-centric approach. As we look ahead, we remain committed to building safe, resilient and future-ready operations that deliver lasting value for our customers,” said V Srinivas, Head – Operations, Drive Products, ABB India.

V Srinivas, along with Basavarajappa B, Quality Assurance and Production Development Manager, received the awards at the Manufacturing Thought Leaders Summit 2026.

NAMC is a unique awards program which recognizes non-conventional approaches and tailor-made strategies of organizations while the AatmaNirbhar Factory Recognition Program (AFRP) honors factories driving operational self-sufficiency, local manufacturing resilience, and self-reliance aligned with the broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision.

Two decades of drives production excellence in India

Last year, the Drive Products facility in Peenya marked two decades of drives production excellence in India, a milestone that strengthens ABB’s local-for-local manufacturing capability and ability to serve growing industries in the country. The facility also expanded with a new line for variable frequency drive (VFD) modules, increasing local production capacity by about 25 percent.

ABB drives are used to control the speed of electric motors to match the actual demands of the process to improve energy efficiency and performance in any industrial application or building. From metros and airports to pharma, metals and beyond, ABB’s drives have played a key role in nation-building projects over the years.

The facility remains focused on investing in strengthening its manufacturing capabilities through advanced technologies that enhance quality, efficiency and operational agility. From robotics-enabled production and automated material movement to digital production monitoring and sensor-based quality controls, the facility is building a future-ready manufacturing ecosystem aligned with Industry 4.0 principles.

By combining advanced manufacturing technologies with the expertise of its people, the facility continues to build a resilient, future-ready operation that delivers consistent quality and greater value to customers.
