As integration efforts continue following ABB’s acquisition of GE Industrial Solutions, customers and partners increasingly benefit from a more comprehensive product range, an enhanced buying experience and expanded manufacturing capacity.
In the eight months since ABB’s acquisition of GE Industrial Solutions, the rewards of this union are already being experienced across the electrification industry, with plans underway to build on initial successes throughout 2019.
Since shortly after the acquisition closed, customers and partners have been able to benefit from access to additional, market leading ABB and Industrial Solutions offerings, while ABB built a roadmap for a best-in-class, combined product portfolio.
For 2019 and beyond, this product portfolio strategy includes infusing time-tested Industrial Solutions low-voltage equipment with ABB’s latest innovative components, while investing in the customer experience and manufacturing operations.
Tarak Mehta, President of ABB’s Electrification Products division, comments: “The most important objective is to ensure an enhanced electrification offering and experience for our customers and partners around the world. I am delighted at the feedback on the positive impact this union is already having and remain committed to realizing our best of both worlds strategy, which will add even greater value for our customers moving forward.”
ABB is making significant product portfolio investments to deliver a more technologically advanced and digitally connected offering. These investments will enable customers to take advantage of ABB’s digital offering, ABB Ability™, including digitalization opportunities for the Industrial Solutions installed base. For example, leveraging on ABB Ekip UP smart units, the existing AKD switchgear units will be connected directly to the cloud-based platform ABB AbilityTM Electrical Distribution Control System, enabling their digital transformation without impact.
Indeed, leveraging the best of both portfolios, ABB will introduce the next generation of automatic transfer switch technology for summer 2019. Updated Zenith ZTX and ZTG series’ transfer switches from Industrial Solutions, powered by ABB’s breakthrough TruONE™ technology, have been designed to increase system reliability, connectivity, and ease of use.
Meanwhile, a key part of the integration effort is enhancing the customer and partner experience. In addition to the expanded global footprint, sales force and distribution network gained through the acquisition, ABB is also investing in expanding U.S. resources dedicated to its key markets. This will enable an expanded support offering such as customized design and configured solutions for customer applications to create successful preparations for manufacturing.
At the same time, ABB is working to continually update the digital experience for partners using Industrial Solutions’ best-in-class empower platform, supporting a wide range of activities from ordering and configuration to shipment tracking.
ABB is also focusing on opportunities to improve manufacturing operations and strengthen fulfillment. Among these efforts, ABB is investing $36m to expand its advanced technology manufacturing operations in Senatobia, MS. The expansion will strengthen local capabilities for full production of ABB Tmax XT circuit breakers, increasing capacity and further supporting customers’ lead-time and delivery needs.
In addition, for the U.S. market ABB has strengthened technical manufacturing support with a 20 percent increase in new requisition engineering expertise, which supports customized design and configured solutions for customer applications.
