ABB, the industrial control system leader, has released the new software FIM UMC Edition for its UMC100.3 Universal Motor Controller that makes configuration faster and simpler, scanning identifying and enabling access to the device within minutes. For process industries, the software helps make the UMC100.3 an intelligent data hub for predictive applications, maintenance and asset management.
ABB’s global product specialist Helmut Schönfelder said: “The ABB UMC100.3 delivers the high levels of protection that critical process industry functions demand, while taking control and communication to new levels. The quality of ABB’s software, its adaptability and instantly familiar user interface make the UMC 100.3 among the most future-ready solutions available.”
The UMC100.3 is widely used in process industries, enabling low-voltage motors to perform safely and reliably. The device integrates easily with the ABB 800xA Distributed Control System as part of a complete ABB solution, acting as a gateway for ABB Ability™ cloud-based data analytics and digital services.
The UMC100.3’s new Field Information Manager (FIM) software makes it easy to configure and integrate field devices, test settings and monitor status and diagnostics. It is the only universal motor controller that implements the new Field Device Integration (FDI) standard, enabling compatibility with tablets, laptops, PCs and workstations.
The UMC100.3 is compatible with more communication protocols than any other motor controller. This not only reduces wiring and installation; it makes integration easier with other control systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
“Data is key to continuous reliability improvements in critical process industries,” said Schönfelder. “More data means errors can be identified faster: the UMC100.3 and its software are designed to provide that data, while making the process more user-friendly and versatile.”
The multi-lingual FIM software provides all the functionalities needed for effective use of the UMC100.3. Device parametrization and operating and monitoring modes make configuration, testing and online diagnosis quick and easy. Larger projects are supported with integrated project management tools.
The release of common software tools with the same look and feel makes the UMC 100.3 easier to install, use and maintain. ABB software tools are designed to make navigation faster with users able to access key parameters more quickly, saving time. ABB’s FIM allows users to access device menus at a single touch, switching easily from one device to another and making operations, diagnostics and parameter setting significantly quicker.
