ABB extends its digital offering to make data management of electrical assets more sustainable

ABB Ability™ Data Care makes information available 24/7

ABB announces a new release of ABB Ability™ Backup Management for electrical systems – Data Care, which is an advanced data-sharing and backup service for protection and control relays. Current, relevant and reliable information is available 24/7 at all user levels to ensure smooth relay operation. Data Care is available as a subscription-based service through ABB Ability MarketplaceTM. Relion® protection relay users have the possibility to update software easily online.

The diminishing knowledge of older protection relays together with today’s modern multifunction relays increases the critical importance of maintaining a substation’s information. “Today over 1,500,000 ABB protection relays of different ages are installed in utilities and industries worldwide”, said Alessandro Palin, Managing Director of Distribution Solutions within the Electrification business. “Data Care is a web-based service providing the customer with a structured storage space for technical documentation, such as relay configuration files, disturbance recordings, technical solutions, drawings and other documents. Data Care is also included in the Power Care Customer Support Agreements”.

Data Care provides information on protection and control relays throughout their entire life cycle. It gives employees, subcontractors and service providers easy access online to technical information on the relays anywhere, anytime. Individual user accounts and access rights are managed at substation level.

Administration is easy as only basic computer skills are required to manage the graphical substation structure of the company. A company’s own administrator has full access to the company account to create user accounts and define user rights. User-defined email notifications are possible for periodical testing and preventive maintenance.

The User Interface and Firmware Update feature provides Relion® protection relay users the possibility to update software. This service represents an integral part of ABB’s life cycle management of the distribution protection relays. It ensures optimized usability throughout the entire life cycle by offering the latest improvements online.

The new ABB Ability Marketplace™ makes ABB’s software services accessible from one central portal. Customers can buy, tailor, and manage their digital solutions online, wherever and whenever they want. These services include cloud-based applications and reports, on-premise and downloadable applications and remote support services and much more.
