A new festival dedicated to the latest sustainable technologies is to be staged alongside this weekend’s ABB Formula E race in Germany’s capital Berlin, inspired by ABB’s title partnership with the world’s first all-electric motor-racing series.
The Greentech Festival, co-founded by 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, is the first of its kind and will run alongside the Berlin E-Prix at Tempelhof airport from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25.
Up to 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the combined E-Prix and Greentech Festival, to experience the latest developments and thinking in the fields of e-mobility, sustainability and a green economy.
Rosberg, a green technology entrepreneur and investor in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, explained how the existence of the E-Prix, now in its fifth year in Berlin, has provided the ideal platform for staging the complementary event.
“It’s a really exciting project because of the opportunities around the race to put on great speakers and awards, and concerts,” he said. “It has all come together really well in Berlin and I think the ABB Formula E race is going to be super-exciting there as well. There’s so much happening, it’s going to be great.”
Among the technologies featured will be drone taxis, solar-powered shipping, virtual reality displays and biodegradable clothing, while the speaker list for the festival’s Green Leaders Conference includes Violeta Bulc, EU Commissioner for Transport, HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Jean Todt, President of motorsport governing body, the FIA.
ABB is supporting the festival with its own booth featuring a range of ABB technologies including Free@Home products, a hologram showing ABB electric vehicle infrastructure and ABB Smarter Home solutions.
Martin Schiefer, head of ABB Marine & Ports in Germany, will also speak at the Green Leaders Conference on The Future of Seafaring. He said “It’s very exciting that the Greentech Festival has been launched, as it represents a great opportunity for ABB to show the huge range of products and solutions that we can offer to help the global drive for a more sustainable future. We’re delighted to support the festival, alongside the ABB Formula E Berlin E-Prix and show our commitment to leadership in this field.”
Alejandro Agag, Formula E CEO and founder added: “I am really looking forward to welcoming fans to the Greentech Festival at the race in Berlin. The ABB FIA Formula E Championship offers a perfect platform to reach the next generation.”
