ABB opens state-of-the-art regional robotics Digital Operation Center in Malaysia

Digital Center supports ABB’s commitment to deploy digital robotic solu-tions for the connected factory of the future.

ABB today announced the opening of its first robotics Digital Operations Center in Malaysia, which will unlock the full potential of digital manufacturing and industrial robotics in the region.

Located in Subang Jaya, Selangor, the Digital Operations Center will offer all the benefits of the ABB AbilityTM cross-industry digital platform, which enables customers to securely integrate and aggregate their data, combine with wider industry data, apply big data and predictive analytics, and generate insights that can help them improve performance and productivity.

Managed by a team of experienced engineers, the center will harness Industry 4.0 technologies including cloud computing, big data analytics and end-to-end connectivity to provide real-time monitoring and technical support for ABB robots across ASEAN countries as well as Taiwan and India.

“At the heart of the new center is the ABB AbilityTM digital platform. Our Connected Services monitor the health and performance of single robots or entire fleets. Today, we monitor over 7,000 connected robots in more than 750 factories worldwide to provide actionable intelligence that allows service experts to address issues that could lead to a costly unplanned stoppage before they occur,” said Laurent Maillefer, Vice President, Robotics and Discrete Automation, ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd. “By combining our leading digital solutions with our proven experience and expertise in robotics, the team at the Digital Operations Center will help both large and small manufacturers in the region tackle a wide range of challenges, to improve productivity and profitability today, and to help them transition to the new connected era of manufacturing tomorrow.”

“ABB’s decision to host this Center in Malaysia reaffirms our commitment to support the country’s growing digital ecosystem. Strategically located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Malaysia offers easy accessibility, economic diversity, excellent infrastructure and a growing pool of talent to support our needs,” said William Ng, Country MD, ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd. “Our main priority is to develop local engineering capabilities to deliver the right level of response to drive ABB’s leadership in digital technologies for industries in the region.”

Commending ABB on the milestone, YB Datuk Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, said, “I would like to express my appreciation to ABB for establishing a truly leading-edge robotics digital operation center which is fitting and timely as Malaysia stakes its claim as the region’s rising manufacturing powerhouse.”

To enable a supportive ecosystem to accelerate Malaysia’s adoption of Industry 4.0, ABB Malaysia and InvestKL signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for collaboration in areas of mutual interest at the same event.

Muhammad Azmi Zulkifli, Acting Chief Executive Officer, InvestKL said,  “ABB’s technology pioneering in robotics has been growing substantially in Greater KL and we are honoured to be part of today’s milestone.  With this MoA, we will work together in  strengthening ABB’s supply chain by shaping a  stronger collaboration with local SMEs.
