Vietnam, August, 2015 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has signed agreements with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, all leading universities in Vietnam, to further develop the next generation of engineering professionals.

"ABB in Vietnam has a 20-year history of community engagement and through this latest initiative, we are proud to be contributing to industry, deepening our long-term development here." said Axel Kalt, country managing director of ABB in Vietnam. "We believe that ABB's educational investment here will bring very practical real-life work processes and experiences into learning environments here."

Under the agreement, valued at $200,000, ABB will develop a five-year training program to educate engineering students on new IEC standards and ABB's latest technologies. ABB will also provide on-site equipment such as its ArTu power distribution switchboards, which feature the latest low-voltage technologies.

"The ArTu power distribution switch board will bring the latest technologies right into our lab," said Dr. Tuan Do Hong, Dean of Electrical & Electronics engineering faculty, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. "We would like to express our special thanks to ABB for this kind support as without them, we would be difficult to make such an investment alone in the short time."

"The vision of our school is to develop practical engineers, who can adapt to real challenges as soon as they are begin work," says Tam Nguyen Minh, Dean of Electrical & Electronics engineering faculty, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education "To make this happen, we need committed partners like ABB. We are very grateful to them for this significant contribution and we hope to continue this partnership in the future."

The cooperation agreement also gives faculty the opportunity to teach, practice and exchange technology knowledge with ABB, while students can take advantage of internships or other job opportunities.

Whether at basic or advanced levels, students will learn more about IEC standards and how to apply them to purpose-built switch boards and other equipment, and will further develop skills for Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), SCADA systems, automatic load shedding systems, control circuit breakers via wireless, amongst others.
