ABB and a helping hand at Vietnam – Sweden Hospital in Uong Bi

Supporting the local community is a social responsibility put forward by the ABB Group as well as ABB Vietnam, alongside with our focus on business objectives.

This kind-hearted gesture from ABB is seen in a recent project supporting a hospital in the northern province of Quang Ninh. In early January 2012, through the Swedish embassy in Hanoi, we knew that the Vietnam - Sweden Hospital in Uong Bi needed our support in testing, consulting and overhauling two on-load tap-changers (OLTC) for the hospital's 1250kVA transformers that didn't work.

Opened in early 1980s, the Vietnam - Sweden Hospital in Uong Bi is a humanitarian project funded by the Swedish Government for Vietnam and since then the hospital has been receiving a great deal of support from the Swedish Government through the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam. This time, the Embassy agreed to seek support with the faulty OLTC at the hospital. As a foreign invested company having one of the headquarters in Sweden, in the spirit of contributing to the community, ABB management in Vietnam decided to sponsor the entire technical solution and replacement service for the OLTC which was provided by Embassy of Sweden.

On 8 June, the ABB service engineer team arrived at Uong Bi for the replacement of the OLTC and to fix the current problem with the hospital's transformers. After some hours, our skilled engineers had repaired all damages and the system resumed good operations.

Dr. Le Duc Diep, Deputy Director of the hospital said: "We highly appreciate the support given to us by the Swedish Government during the past time. The help offered by the Swedish Government and the Embassy of Sweden is a meaningful gift for Vietnamese people in general and Quang Ninh people in particular. The kind-hearted support does not only help Quang Ninh people enjoy advanced medical services since 1980s but also bring a lot of chances to our medical personnel in their professional development, skill improvement and knowledge achievement to reach advanced level in the world.

We also highly appreciate and sincerely thank ABB for supporting us in surveying, installation and repairs of the transformer, helping stabilize the hospital's power grid, so that we can provide better service to local people".

Mr. Nguyen Viet Ha, Technical Manager of the hospital added: "Thanks to the help of the Swedish Government, the people in Quang Ninh and in the surrounding areas have been benefited from a high quality construction project with good facilities and excellent infrastructure. It helps serve patients more conveniently and effectively. We will try to maintain and develop the hospital in return to the support of the Swedish Government, the Embassy of Sweden and kind hearted sponsors like ABB".
