On 28 February 2012, ABB Ltd. in Vietnam has officially held a ceremony to recognise two briliant students from the biggest technology university in Vietnam, the Hanoi University of Technology (HUT), who have achieved the ABB JDF scholarship in the school year of 2011 - 2012.

Participating in the ceremony were Mr. Jian Peng Fu, CEO of ABB in Vietnam, Professor Nguyen Xuan Hoang Viet, Dean of the Eletrical Faculty, Professor Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Deputy Dean and other representatives from HUT and ABB.

JDF (Jürgen Dormann Foundation) was set up in 2007 by the ABB Group to honor the achievements of our former chairman and CEO, Jürgen Dormann. Based in Baden, Switzerland, the ABB Jürgen Dormann Foundation for Engineering Education aims at sponsoring brilliant students of academic institutions across the globe and encouraging them to study hard for innovation and adoption of new energy and automation technology to help our society to be more efficient. Some hundreds of good students worldwide have been selected since this foundation has been built.

In addition to excellent study results, other important criteria for selection are students' family background and their spirit of overcoming difficulties to reach brilliant scores.

This is the second year this program is implemented in Vietnam with scholarship offered to the HUT. Two students, Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Than Van Tu, both 3rd year students from HUT's electrical faculty have been selected among a big number of applicants.

Making a remark on what ABB JDF scholarship offers, Mr. Jian Peng Fu shared that selected students will not only receive financial support but also academic consultation from local ABB mentors and more than that, a chance to attend regional and international events hosted by ABB where they can network and learn from other scholars from diversified countries. "This is a real remarkable milestone in the life of the selected students and I am sure they are very proud of it", commented Mr. Jian Peng Fu.

In fact, two scholarship winners from last year, Ha Van Tu and Ta Huu Cu, who are now the 4th year electrical engineering students, will participate in one week scholar networking seminar in Switzerland this August. This is a very unique chance for Tu and Cu and would be very encouraging for them in their study.

On behalf of HUT, Professor Nguyen Xuan Hoang Viet, Dean of the Eletrical Faculty thanked ABB for continuous cooperation and support extended to HUT for the last years and wished the cooperation and friendship will further develop in the future.

The next scholarship program for the year 2012 - 2013 will commence this April and ABB encourages large number of students, especially female students to apply to this program.
