Small power transformers pass routine and type in Vietnam

Transformer factory in Hanoi to supply power transformers to Australia

In the month of July 2010, the small power transformer factory in Vietnam hosted key customers from the electrical utility Horizon Power in Western Australia for a factory acceptance testing of four 60 MVA transformers.

This was the second order of transformers supplied to Horizon Power from the ABB Vietnam facility. The testing ran over 10 days with a number of Horizon Power officials inspecting the testing of all four transformers which met and passed the rigorous routine and type testing program. The Horizon Power customers also inspected the factory manufacturing taking detailed note of the quality and OHS procedures in place including a visit to one of the transformer tank fabrication suppliers.

"Horizon Power officials all indicated that they were very pleased in what they had seen, both at the ABB plant and at the affiliated suppliers. The customers saw a high quality factory and reliable transformers," proudly said Murray Alldritt, marketing and sales manager Hanoi factory.

According to Horizon Power these high quality features were very important for a low maintenance product in the arid region that the transformers will be delivered and where the temperatures are regularly in the high 40 degree Celsius with sandy and salty environment.

"Everyone at Horizon Power found the attitude of ABB Vietnam to be absolutely amazing. The mindset of wanting to learn, improve and making the client happy was such a breath of fresh air and we have no issue with ABB using us as a reference case," said Dale Cartwright- Power Systems Engineer, Horizon Power.

The transformers will be delivered to Horizon Power in the Karratha township region in Western Australia in the fourth quarter. The Karratha area is world famous for being the regional hub of extensive iron ore mining and LNG gas processing facilities.

Horizon Power network is a commercially focused, state government-owned power company that provides quality, reliable power supplies to Western Australia's booming regional economy and providing electrification to over 2.3 million square kilometers of area.
