Like many other Asian countries, Vietnam is going through rapid urbanization and there are limited funds and time to develop the required technical and social infrastructure. In addition, Vietnam also faces other global issues caused by climate change, particularly rising sea levels in the Mekong delta.

Technology will play a critical role in managing this growth. From energy-efficient technologies for smart buildings to those that provide clean electrical transportation, from enabling a secure power grid to improving leakage performance in the water network, ABB is keen to bring to Vietnam the best of what it has to offer within its ABB AbilityTM portfolio of digital solutions, to help support the country's development in sustainable urbanization and particularly in smart transportation.

Representatives from both Sweden and Vietnam aligned to discuss the future for e-mobility in this rapidly developing Asian nation. Hosted by the Embassy of Sweden, Business Sweden (The Swedish Trade and Invest Council), the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and the People's Committees of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, bilateral meetings and discussions were held during a recent visit of the Swedish Sustainable City Delegation to Vietnam.

Focused on the theme "Fostering Sustainable Public Transport - Sharing Best Practices from Sweden & Vietnam", the event involved ABB and other Swedish companies such as Ericsson, Volvo Buses, etc. Discussions with several public and private stakeholders in the public transport and urban development sector centered on how Vietnam can increase urban ridership in public transport, ensure that the urban environment is safe, and how the country can best make use of the latest technologies available in ITS / IoT and e-mobility.

"ABB has been helping Danang, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City recognize their vision of smart city development. What we are looking to do in the future is to become a technology partner to these cities, supplying charging systems for electric buses and trucks, solutions for the electrification of ships, railways, and cableways," said Brian Hull, Country Managing Director of ABB in Vietnam.
