On July 26, ABB and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government signed an investment and cooperation agreement on building a smart manufacturing base of transformers in Chongqing’s Liangjiang New Area. According to the agreement, ABB Chongqing Transformer Co., Ltd. will move to Liangjiang New Area from Jiulongpo District and establish a world-leading transformer manufacturing base in the new site. Claudio Facchin, President of ABB Power Grids business and Jinquan Zhang, Head of Greater China Region, ABB Power Grids business attended the signing ceremony with Chongqing government.
The new transformer manufacturing base is located in Yufu Industrial Park of Liangjiang New Area, which is expected to begin construction in late 2019 and put into operation in 2022.
In 1998, ABB establised ABB Chongqing Transformer Co., Ltd., a first joint venture company in western China. After 20 years of fast growth, the company has developed a full range of business activities, including R&D, manufacturing, sales and services, focusing on the design and manufacture of power transformer, shunt reactor and HVDC converter transformer. Currently, the factory has turned into one of the largest ABB global transformer manufacturing bases and ABB’s Asia Pacific Regional Center for insulation kits.
As one of the largest global R&D and production bases for ABB, the Company has participated in many major projects in China, including Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River, Beijing Olympic Games, Shanghai Expo and Changji-Guquan, the world’s first ±1,100 kV UHVDC transmission link with a new world record on voltage level, transmission capacity and distance.
