ABB Technology Insights: Enhancing collaborative learning with webinars

After the success of first webinar hosted as a part of the Consultant Connect Plan, plans are underway to host more on topics tailored to the consultants’ requirements to promote effective learning.

In a contemporary world driven by technological transformation, it is imperative for everyone to keep up with the industry’s latest trends for optimization. The consultants’ rising needs for informative sessions on technology upgrades and its impacts coincided with that of ABB India’s need to share technological insights and promote new products.

Owing to lack of time and geographical barriers, it was hard for ABB to build an effective relationship with its consultants with whom they interacted only during the tender or project phase. Adding to this was the problem of the limited availability of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who could talk in the language of the consultants. The consultants were geographically spread making it even more difficult for SMEs to engage continuously and establish an effective, long-term connection.

The key to accelerate this learning was the requirement of a dedicated platform that would facilitate deep, personalized training. As a part of the Consultant Connect Plan, the Country Business Development team came up with a strategy to host a series of webinars that would help share and nurture relationship with its consultants.

A methodical plan was formulated to carry out this project. First, all the consultants in the zones were mapped and a Consultant Lead Partner (CLP), who would also be the SPOC was assigned to each mapped consultant to lead and facilitate further engagement. Next, key technology insights to be shared with consultants were identified and SMEs were nominated as session speakers. Based on the industry needs, the session speakers were to then examine and develop content for the webinar.

In the first wave, over 650 consultants from different segments were mapped and four topics were shortlisted. Consultant mapping was carried out with an intent to facilitate cross country collaboration where multiple consultant offices were involved.

The four topics scheduled as per the Consultant Connect Plan were:

  • Is your voltage selection criteria for motors and drive system the most optimal? – 16th July
  • Improving safety and reliability with digital MV and LV Switchgear – 8th August
  • Improving plant reliability with digitally enabled drives and motors – 21st August
  • Why you should consider Power Management System (PMS) for your industrial applications? – 10th September

The webinar on the first topic hosted on 16th July 2019 received an overwhelming response with 148 registrations from 98 unique consultant offices and 78 attendees. The highlight of the webinar was the interactive Q&A session where the attendees actively took part in asking questions and clarifying their doubts in real time from the technical experts in the industry.

Based on the feedback received from the attendees of the first webinar, plans are underway to utilize the available engagement and promote on-demand webinars in future that will be hosted on the ABB India website.

The recording for the first webinar is available on ABB TV.
