Fast charging for electric vehicles to help achieve low carbon objectives for Zhenjiang

On August 10, 2019, the Smart EV Charging Station in the Urban Shangri-La Cultural, Artistic and Living Space situated in Jingkou District, Zhenjiang, China was officially opened. It is the first fast charging station built by Zhenjiang Media and Culture Industrial Group Co., Ltd (ZMC Group), for which ABB provides 8 Terra 63Z fast chargers.

As one of China’s first ecological civilization demonstration cities and China’s second group of low-carbon pilot cities, Zhenjiang implements the strategy of ‘ecological leadership and characteristic development’, and devotes itself to creating an ecological and low-carbon model city. To support Zhenjiang’s economic development and implementation of the industrial upgrading and development strategy, ABB China signed a MoU on strategic cooperation with Zhenjiang People’s Government in September 2017, under which the two parties have developed all-round collaborations on building Zhenjiang’s low-carbon town and EV charging infrastructure.

This time, ABB helped ZMC Group build a ‘Charging Station Operation and Management Platform’, which enables fast device access and provides such services as indicating charging stations on a map plus online monitoring of charging stations and charging operation and management by connecting with the ABB AbilityTM platform.

“ABB’s high-quality products and services support us in building Zhenjiang into a ‘low-carbon city’, and promoting the deployment of new energy technologies, improving energy efficiency and developing a modern livable city,” remarked Zhang Bing, Chairman and General Manager of ZMC Group.

“ABB will leverage its expertise in clean energy, intelligent transportation, building and manufacturing to fully support the design and implementation of Zhenjiang’s low-carbon city plans, and strengthen in-depth collaborations with ZMC Group on building Zhenjiang’s EV charging network,” said Mr. James Zhao, lead business manager of ABB Electrification in China. Among others, Roy Yang, sales manager of ABB Electrification in China, and Allen Dong, Head of EV Infrastructure business in China, were present at the opening ceremony.

As a global leader in EV charging infrastructure, ABB has sold 11,000 DC fast chargers across 76 countries. In China, ABB proactively works with its partners to drive technology innovation, and keeps improving its product portfolio, supporting China to build a sustainable transportation system for the future.
