ABB will showcase a wide range of innovative digital products, solutions and services that are driving manufacturing towards the automated and connected Factory of the Future at this year’s China International Industry Fair (CIIF).
The five-day fair, which starts September 17, is one of China's leading events in equipment manufacturing. ABB is among the 2,600 exhibitors that will demonstrate its products with a focus on empowering new industrial development, with the largest booth at the CIIF 2019 event.

For China, the epicenter of the world’s electronics manufacturing industry, flexibility and efficiency of the production line is crucial to produce diverse goods in smaller batches.
To demonstrate its capability in this segment, ABB will feature a watch making Factory of the Future cell at CIIF featuring a model production line assembling customized wrist-watches in lot sizes of one, in real time. A range of ABB’s flexible and efficient digital manufacturing products makes this possible: YuMi® collaborative robots will pick and place the parts of the watch, offering their unmatched precision in assembly operations, while ABB’s SuperTrak flexible transport system will ensure the timely movement of parts from one station to another. ABB is also showcasing its digital twin technology which allows operators to control the different production steps and make simulated quality checks, and necessary interventions to optimize the production process.
ABB will also showcase how digital solutions can address the challenge of recycling in the future. ABB’s AI waste separation prototype, being developed following the Shanghai Municipality’s new recycling ordinance, is a neural network of robots, computers and sensors that can classify and sort waste in the same way that a human brain does. Combining a vision system, artificial intelligence and machine learning with a dual-arm YuMi and an IRB 1200 material handling robot, a cloud-based dashboard presents images of waste to the YuMi robot which learns the type of waste and sorts it into four categories of bins. The trash is then moved down the conveyor belt where the IRB 1200 robot collects the different types of trash for recycling.
ABB’s latest vehicle manufacturing solutions will also be on display. The battery assembly process for both battery-powered EVs and plug-in hybrids will be showcased with an advanced battery pack testing cell. ABB’s advanced digital paint solutions are designed to meet the needs of China’s automotive manufacturing industry. The ABB AbilityTM Connected Atomizer is the world’s first digitally-connected paint atomizer providing real-time analysis and diagnostics to help achieve near-zero defect painting, reduce paint loss and ensure uptime, potentially saving millions of dollars for users.

Spanning nearly 1000 m2, the ABB stand in Hall 8.1 and booth E001 is the largest at CIIF this year and includes several other ABB products such as the third generation PickMaster software used for industrial picking and packaging applications. Also, on display is the ABB AbilityTM Connected Services robot monitoring software as well as RobotStudio® on which robots can be programmed virtually before being set up on the factory floor.
As a newer member of ABB, B&R (H6.1, Booth B163) will also participate in the Fair with several machine automation demonstrations, including SuperTrak and ACOPOStrak flexible electric conveyor systems, integrated vision system, smart factory solutions and an integrated automation platform.
