Automation and Power World Australia, Gold Coast Oct 23, 2012 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announce the release of the new 66 kilovolt (kV) modular substation system. The substation system is designed to be assembled and tested in a factory environment and then transported to site for on-site erection with minimal assembly, saving both time and money.
The ABB 66kV Modular Substation combines the benefits of PASS M00 switchgear with an innovative skid that has an integrated gantry and a bay level control and protection panel within the cabinet on the skid. This means a separate substation control building is not required, enabling a reduction in the substation yard footprint size and associated civil work costs. The system is delivered to site with a station service voltage transformer fed at 66kV and integrated to the module which provides a complete standalone product that has the versatility to adapt to a wide range of applications.
"ABB's Modular Substation solution is a complete pre-engineered package that we can build and pre-test in the factory for faster delivery and easier on-site installation, reducing on-site skilled labour costs," said David Baker, division manager of Power System for ABB in Australia. "Our innovative 66 kV modular skid also offers cost savings from the reduced equipment footprint requirements that are only 30 to 40 percent of a conventional substation bay."
ABB estimates that project lead times can be reduced by up to 16 weeks when customers adopt their Early Contractor Involvement concept and select the complete turnkey modular substation solution offering.
ABB's Modular Substation offers a unique flexibility to allow the skid to be used as a new bay addition or to replace older bays inside an existing substation. In addition, several of these modular skids can be installed together to form a complete new 66 kV substation.
ABB Automation and Power World Australia 2012 is being held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, October 23-24, 2012. The event showcases ABB's extensive offerings and expertise in power and automation technologies; technologies that address the themes of energy efficiency, grid reliability, industrial productivity, lifecycle management and renewables and environment.
