- New space merges more than 170 employees from separate offices in Bloomfield and Plainville
- Creation of more than 30 full-time engineering jobs in Connecticut
- Move highlights growing customer demand for ABB’s “best of both” complete line of electrification products that combines ABB and GE Industrial Solutions technologies
ABB announced today the planned opening of a new Product Development Center in Bloomfield, Connecticut that will serve its Electrification business in North America. The company plans to add more than 30 engineering jobs over the next three years.
While ABB has signed a letter of intent to purchase the property, a final agreement is subject to negotiations with the seller and due diligence on the property.
Located at 45 Griffin Road South, the new center will bring together employees from the existing Plainville office and some R&D employees from the facility at Bloomfield’s Phoenix Crossing. The building will fulfill ABB’s Workplace 2020 vision with modern, collaborative workplaces, common spaces and a sustainable approach to design, construction and operation. The move is planned for mid-2020.
“As we continue to drive the digital transformation of our customers, it’s crucial that we strengthen our position to grow where our customers are,” said Maryrose Sylvester, head of Electrification U.S. and Country Managing Director U.S. “The United States remains ABB’s largest customer market, and we are proud to have invested $14 billion across the whole of ABB’s U.S. interests since 2010, tripling our local footprint.”
This new Product Development Center is further evidence of ABB’s successful integration of the former General Electric Industrial Solutions business. Together, the two companies offer the most comprehensive Electrification product line on the market.
In the new location, the center will continue to house an engineering design center
focused on circuit breakers and equipment for North America customers as well as other functional departments. This center will host the primary electrical and materials labs for the Electrification business in North America. The facility will include a complete low-voltage electrical lab, high current and endurance test capabilities, a materials characterization lab, environmental test stations, electronics and systems testing, and a complete rapid prototyping facility to support new product design and development programs.
