The Annual New Zealand Electricity Survey, online via Energy News' subscription based portal www.energynews.co.nz , aims to gather information on pertinent, high-level questions facing the local market.
"In late 2010, Bloomberg Businessweek Research Services surveyed energy professionals worldwide to give their views on the key energy issues facing the world today. ABB was the research sponsor for this survey and found the results gave the industry a good grasp, and in many cases a confirmation, of the key issues," ABB New Zealand managing director Grant Gillard says.
"Following on from the success of this survey, ABB in New Zealand adopted a similar idea, teaming with Energy Newsand an independent advisory panel, to create a locally relevant industry survey around the wider electricity market in New Zealand."
The questions were created from an independent advisory panel. Key topics covered in the inaugural survey include the options to replace Genesis Energy's coal-fired Huntly units, the future impact of renewables and electric vehicles on consumers and the grid, and smart meter ownership. Participants are also asked to gauge the success of the Government's latest electricity reforms, and the approach taken by the Commerce Commission in regulating the country's lines companies.
Participants have until May 31 to complete the survey. Results will be available in June and published in a PDF on: Energy News; the LinkedIn New Zealand Energy Sector Network group and ABB's web and facebook pages.
