ABB Ability™ supports China’s first Smart Parking and Charging pilot

Since Oct 24 2017, ABB has been working with Heshun Electric Vehicle Industry Services Company on the first 'Smart Parking and Charging' pilot in Shenzhen, China. With the help of ABB Ability™, ABB's comprehensive cross-divisional digital offering, the unmanned roadside DC fast chargers provide public access to vehicle charging 24/7.

DONG ZhiHua, the local sales and marketing manager for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure at ABB explains: "We have delivered the first four 60kW DC fast chargers to run this pilot. ABB Ability™ makes backend integration with operation systems very simple and self-service charging safe and reliable."

This includes an installed base of more than 70 million connected devices, 70,000 digital control systems and 6,000 enterprise software solutions. Roadside charging is quite a challege because you need safe public access to very high voltages. ABB Ability™ delivers web-enabled connectivity that allows e-mobility charging network operators to perform remote monitoring, remote diagnosis, remote upgrade, online payment and energy management, while ensuring high levels of safety and availability of the charging service.

At the time of going to press, this pilot had been running for over 6 months with very high usage every day.

According to ZOU DaZhong, the project leader from Heshun, the 'Smart Parking and Charging' pilot with ABB will help mitigate the shortage of charging facilities and utilize roadside parking areas to delpoy a safe, reliable, intelligent charging services to the public.

ABB's DC fast chargers conform to China's newest charging interface standard, with an output power of 60 kW. It fits the need of fast charging en route and is an ideal choice for highway charging stations, EV dealers, gasoline stations and downtown charging hubs. Extensive local design and production make the chargers better suited to the needs of the Chinese market and also provide an open platform for future function expansion and upgrade.
